JPEG-XL image viewer

I’ve recently fallen in love with JPEG-XL. I’m really impressed by how it can encode smaller and near pixel-exact copies of lossy images. I understand that JPEG-XL is still being standardized, but that hasn’t stopped me from using it for archival purposes. It would be nice, though, if there was a way to preview these files without having to convert them back to a supported format. The author of XnView is planning to add JPEG-XL support, but a time frame wasn’t given.

Is there a way to view, or enable a viewer to view, JPEG-XL files?

You will probably need this package
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/libjpeg-xl-git/
pamac build libjpeg-xl-git

Thank you.

The git package includes a plugin for gdk-pixbuf2, which, from what I’ve been told, would enable decoding for viewers like pqiv and gpicview. I’m going to see if I can figure out how to connect this stuff.
