Japanese Issue Solved, but then Come Back?

Title is intentionally vague, pertains to issues:

  1. Copy & Paste Broken for Files & Japanese Text?

whose solution work. For a brief period after restart (after clearing out .cache and using sudo locale-gen I can copy and paste foreign characters.

But after a short period of time, both break again :frowning: . How should I tackle this?

EDIT 0: I think I solved the Dolphin issue, but the Japanese (and foreign characters such as the greek alpha character) still get pasted as ???

what fonts do you have set ?
setting something like noto sans will cover a wide range of languages

No idea, how would i check?

I have all the system defaults + Japanese.

settings> appearance> font

Using Noto Sans for some of them.

well guess the problem is else where

I think I solved the Dolphin issue, but the Japanese (and foreign characters such as the greek alpha character) still get pasted as ???

Can you check the language settings on console ?
locale on console.

Sorry for the late response, here it is:

root@MidnightStarSign:/home/sarah# locale
LANG=en_US.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC=en_US.UTF-8
LC_TIME=en_US.UTF-8
LC_COLLATE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY=en_US.UTF-8
LC_MESSAGES="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER=en_US.UTF-8
LC_NAME=en_US.UTF-8
LC_ADDRESS=en_US.UTF-8
LC_TELEPHONE=en_US.UTF-8
LC_MEASUREMENT=en_US.UTF-8
LC_IDENTIFICATION=en_US.UTF-8
LC_ALL=

I would double check that you’re not missing the Japanese locale again, as @bogdancovaciu suggested in your previous topic.

This is an excellent guide on how to troubleshoot locale issues by @linux-aarhus, as per below:

I thought so as well, but it is uncommented.

locale -a says so as well:

sarah@MidnightStarSign:~$ localectl
   System Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8
       VC Keymap: us
      X11 Layout: us
       X11 Model: pc105
sarah@MidnightStarSign:~$ locale -a
C
en_US.utf8
ja_JP.utf8
POSIX

Can you set the first system locale to ja_JP.utf8 ?
And test again.

The issue spontaniously disappeared after the last major update.

No idea what caused it.

I’m marking this thread as solved based on the above.

For future threads, make sure you mark them as solved. You can do that yourself by clicking on the hamburger menu at the bottom of every post (except for the OP). The solution option is hidden there.

Thanks.
