Issue with dual display

Ok so I’m fairly new to Manjaro but not linux itself. I’m a happy Debian/Ubuntu user who has decided to jump ship to Manjaro because it is so much snappier than any thing I’ve used (other than Pop_OS). So I recently tried Pop_OS and had this issue and assumed it was a PopOS issue until it started to show up in Manjaro.

I have two monitors connected to my Asus ROG RX 570 video card. One through HDMI and the other through DisplayPort (DP from now onwards). The issue I have is when I first installed Manjaro, I found myself stuck on a manjaro screen with a background but no DE in my HDMI monitor but no output on my DP monitor. I assumed it was hung somehow, used ALT-F3 to get to a login and then CTRL-ALT-DELed it till I could modify the boot options. I used “nomodeset” and that seemed to remediate the problem but I had both screens showing the same display (of course) but I got the prompts, and did my install.

Upon reboot, I got the same issue, with my HDMI monitor showing me a wallpaper and a mouse pointer but no other DE info like taskbar, etc. So after moving my mouse, I realized that my DP monitor (which physically sits on the right) was “VIRTUALLY” to the left of my HDMI monitor. However, my DP monitor was in power-saving mode with no display. After doing some forum research, I found the solution:

  1. Disconnect my DP monitor.
  2. Go to DISPLAY SETTINGS and have it ready.
  3. Reconnect my DP monitor.
  4. In DISPLAY SETTINGS, select my DP monitor and disable it. Click APPLY.
  5. In DISPLAY SETTINGS, select my DP monitor and enable it. Click APPLY.

Voila… it came to life!! Thank you to this forum.

TL;DR

Occasionally my DisplayPort monitor goes to black and never comes back till I repeat the above steps. Specifically, when I run LUTRIS (World of Tanks), it tends to go black and not return back. What am I changing or what is being overwritten that keeps me having to do this? I’m assuming this isn’t a strickly WINE issue just because I can only get this effect from Lutris (for now).
