Issue to install Nvidia Accelerate Graphic Driver

Hi there !
I’m completely new to the Linux world, and I could use a bit of help ^^
I’m trying to use Lutris, and as I read online I downloaded a vulkan driver support, this one : Linux x64 (AMD64/EM64T) Display Driver. When i launched the installation process, I got this error :

Unable to find the kernel source tree for the currently running kernel. Please make sure you have installed the kernel source files for your kernel and that they are properly configured; on Red Hat Linux systems, for example, be sure you have the 'kernel-source' or 'kernel-devel' RPM installed. If you know the correct kernel source files are installed, you may specify the kernel source path with the '--kernel-source-path' command line option.

I tried to find the solution online, but I don’t feel confident enough to do it by myself…

Here’s my system :

Thanks for your help !

Hello @Fourchette and welcome

First I must say, that the driver seems not to be loaded (N/A):

Can you test this:

glxinfo | grep "OpenGL renderer"
prime-run glxinfo | grep "OpenGL renderer"

Note that you need to restart after installing the nvidia driver.

Nvidia drivers are installed by mhwd normally:

sudo mhwd --auto pci nonfree 0300

If the driver is installed properly, then only vulkan libs are needed. Search for vulkan at the package-manager.

Welcome to the forum!

No idea what that is or where you found it, but that’s where you went wrong. No drivers need to be downloaded, this isn’t Windows. Remove that driver and install the NVIDIA proprietary driver:

sudo mhwd -a pci nonfree 0300

See Configure Graphics Cards - Manjaro

Hi ! Thanks for your help
So I test the prime run, and i got this :

Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 152 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 24 (X_GLXCreateNewContext)
  Value in failed request: 0x0
Serial number of failed request: 39
Current serial number in output stream: 40

For the drivers, they were already installed.

And for vulkan, i have downloaded the packages yesterday. So i don’t understand why it’s not working

Thanks for your answer !
In fact, the drivers were already installed. I just tried to complicate things i think ^^

But thanks for your help !

Well when even OpenGL does not work, then there is some wrong configuration.

Can you post your xorg log?

Indeed. No NVIDIA module has been loaded here…

lsmod | grep nvidia

Check these files:

cat /etc/modprobe.d/mhwd-gpu.conf
cat /etc/modules-load.d/mhwd-gpu.conf

Also:

mhwd -l && mhwd -li

I got this result :

cat: /etc/modprobe.d/mhwd-gpu.conf: Aucun fichier ou dossier de ce type (in english, No such files or folders)
cat: /etc/modules-load.d/mhwd-gpu.conf: Aucun fichier ou dossier de ce type

Warning: No installed USB configs!

Then I expect that you did not use mhwd for installation. How did you install the driver?

pamac list --installed | grep "nvidia"

Is it ok now ?

I can’t remember properly, i installed manjaro a month ago, following some tutorial…

So you followed a “tutorial” and installed nvidia 470xx?

But on the other hand the utils of 390xx are installed:

But no driver: linux515-nvidia-390xx

Very strange. So I guess you installed it not from the official manjaro repo. Or is it even installed by some script?

On top opencl is installed for version 510xx.

So 3 different version :man_facepalming:

I think i installed the nvidia 470xx when I “tinkered” with the installation of Lutris and vulkan.
I didn’t use any script, i think i tried to many different things, not knowing exactly what i was doing.
I’ll use help more often i think :upside_down_face:

Then remove these ones:

pamac remove lib32-nvidia-390xx-utils lib32-opencl-nvidia nvidia-390xx-utils

and install it again with:

sudo mhwd -a pci nonfree 0300

It’s not working, i got this message :

removing nvidia-390xx-utils breaks the “nvidia-utils” dependency required by nvidia-prime

Add this package to the remove command.

OK, and then i got this :
Skipping already installed config ‘video-hybrid-intel-nvidia-390xx-bumblebee’ for device: 0000
:00:02.0 (0300:8086:0166) Display controller Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics C
ontroller

sudo mhwd --remove pci video-hybrid-intel-nvidia-390xx-bumblebee
sudo mhwd --install pci video-linux

GeForce GT 740M is only supported by nvidia 390xx or nouveau. GeForce GT 740 is supported by 470xx. So the mobile version has no blessing of nvidia.

If you don’t want to use bumblebee, you can try the dkms package and configure everything yourself.

pamac install nvidia-390xx-dkms

I’ll try to get more experience before configuring everything by myself now ^^

But thanks a lot for your time and your help ! The game i wanted to play with lutris is working now

Thanks again !
