ISO images giving black screen, hardware compatibility with manjaro?

I had trouble updating in my initial post, so new topic.

I decided to give it one more try, again the cinnamon iso was the only one that worked, I saw another post speculating manjaro could have problems with just Intel’s UHD Graphics? I have no clue, but maybe a graphics setting got changed in the update? The cinnamon version worked until I synced, wouldn’t boot after that. Why only the cinnamon version would launch, is there something I could do for a work around?

I think I’ve narrowed it down. I didn’t update anything but Vivaldi, I restarted and it was able to reboot again. The black screen happened again when I updated alsa firmware. After that when I chose Manjaro

error: no such device: (a long hex number)
error: disk ‘hd0,gpt3’ not found.
error: you need to load the kernal first.

No idea about the first two lines, but I understand the 3rd.

you’re post is hard to understand, so let me ask a question first:

what is the actual situation ? can you boot into a working cinnamon session ?
if not, can you boot into terminal using ALT-F5 (switch back with ALT-F2) ?

The forum said “you can’t post links” with the output in the same post, here’s another try. in text only

I cannot right now. I would have to format the partition again and reinstall from the ISO usb. None of the other’s KDE, gnome, would get me to the installer.

first things first. if you want to copy something to the forum use the following step.
a)copy the text to clipboard (mark it and copy)
b) you’ll open the posting-function. use the </> and the “three ticks” will appear. paste your text inside

okay, thanks

i’m not jesus, without answer it’s sticking in the dark

I’ll try it. I haven’t been using any alt keys. just F12 and F2. I can hear the hardware for a while after I choose Manjaro, then it goes black. I’m not sure about what to do, grub or anything, but after I choose manjaro from the options, mint or manjaro on my system it goes black. Should I try the alt key’s in the menu do you mean? I will try it if that’s what you are saying. I am clueless about this stuff, mostly.

Oh, I think I catch you? I am a mint user, trying to move to manjaro. When something breaks, I reinstall the one version of manjaro that will work on my laptop.

that’s an information you hide from us first. how should we know that you tried to install a dual boot system ?

I’m sorry. I should have given that information. My bad.

yes i already felt so. okay first step can you open the konsole/terminal and log into text-konsole (by ALT-F5) ?

I will try.

Okay, I hit ALT-F5 after I heard the hard drive start. Nothing. I then chose manjaro from my two choices, i pressed ALT-F5, when I’m guessing it was getting ready to boot. The error no device came after that. I could reinstall again, maybe get a snapshot before the firmware update? I am not sure how to proceed.

no, you hit ALT-F5 when you arrive the black screen.

okay I’ll try again

No, definitely not. The same error as before, including
error: you need to load the kernal first. after it displayed that, it went back to the menu of manjaro or mint.

before we proceed. are you able to boot into mint ?

it is my primary, I don’t have to do anything, just turn it on.

a) so you can boot into a working mint ?
b) you can start a konsole app in mint ?
please answer no or yes to each.

(a) I am on mint now. on b i don’t know, when it boot’s? idk. I have access to a termilal in mint.

that’s what i’m asking for. okay let’s open this terminal and we do some mandatory checks first.
open the terminal and run

lsblk

copy and past the output here
then redo this and run

lsblk -f

copy and paste it here again
