Yes, that is perfectly doable. You wouldn’t be the first.

Thousands of people use desktop computers without a UPS.

They seem to survive pretty well.

I’m one of them. My UPS broke down several years ago and I still haven’t bought another one. :man_shrugging:

If you do not need a battery to back up.

This is risky if you have a power outage when you update, or if you’re unlucky and it messes up the file system. In most cases it would still be recoverable though. But there is a slim risk that something at some point goes wrong.

That being said, statistically it should be safe in theory.

Speaking of UPS it’s been months that I have mine warning me my battery is dead sometimes, thanks for reminding me to buy a new one  I always tell myself “I’ll do it later”, after shutting down the computer and pressing the button to reset it, and forget about it.

Of course it is, all my laptops run on their adapters all the time…
Of course, using (only) second handers, the battery IS the first issue. But…sure…I’d not know why not

Without the battery, you will only lose battery backup, but hardware-wise, should be fine. Software could be another story, though, as not everything is written with sudden power outage in mind.

Desktop computers have bios battery but most of laptops don’t .
