Internet no longer working after update

I’ve updated Manjaro recently via the software update gui, I’ve installed all the software that required an update, after a restart I’ve noticed my network connection is no longer working.

In the toolbar, under networks I’ve noticed under my “Wired connection” it states “Connected” but 0 B/s for both download/upload.

I’ve executed a ping google.com which results in a error stating: Temporary failure in name resolution.
I’ve restarted my dhcpcd via sudo systemctl restart dhcpcd and checked the status of dhcpcd, my ip6 connection seems to be connected and was able to run ping google.com without the error above, however it seems that I’m experiencing a 100% packet loss.

I’m not sure how else to proceed to diagnose this error, i’ve checked my conf under /etc/resolv.conf and the nameserver results into my router ip address but seems to revert back to 0.0.0.0 whenever I restart my machine when dhcpcd is disabled.

I’ve also reverted my NetworkManager version from 1.40.2-1 to be 1.38.2-2 as well as libnm but that didn’t resolve anything.

My kernel is 5.15.76-1, I think this was recently installed after the update (not 100% sure)

Any ideas? I’ve seen a lot of other people experiencing similar issues but still haven’t found any solution.

Did you reboot your computer? How about your router? Also read this page and provide the minimum required information on your setup effectively using the forum to get support

I don’t think you should be using dhcpcd and Network Manager together. It usually is an either/or situation. From the wiki:

NetworkManager is the default solution for networking on most Manjaro editions. If you would prefer to use dhcpcd, that is also supported.

I would connect the Ethernet cord directly to the modem to rule out a router configuration issue.

A full inxi output would be helpful as well:

inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --width

Thanks for the response, that answers the question related to dhcpcd and the network manager.

I’ve run the command as you suggested and this is the output. I don’t use WiFI, I’m using an Ethernet connection and I’ve also tested it directly by connecting to the router, the router isn’t the issue here as it’s working on other devices as well as on a Manjaro VM which I’ve created recently.

I have rebooted my machine and I’ve checked the guide to provide more info, thanks for sharing.

Update 06/11/22

I’ve traced back on the logs via /var/log/pacman.log

The contents of my /etc/resolv.conf I’m not sure how these errors relate to my network problem, I do suffer 100% packet loss when I do run ping 8.8.8.8 but able to get back packets when pinging 0.0.0.0 or my router.

I’m not sure how else to proceed with this…

Does the internet work with a live .iso?

Yes, as well as from a VM. I have Windows 10 as dual boot and tested it within that.

…wat?

Is Windows completely shutdown. Is fastboot, sleep and hibernation disabled in Windows? Take a look here:

I don’t know myself, it’s generated by my NetworkManager.

Yes, the windows is shut down, I have Manjaro installed in a separate nvme drive, the windows partition isn’t the issue here. The issue came after I ran some updates.

My PineBookPro running Manjaro ARM on AArch64 has the same problem. It has no Ethernet port so without WiFi it’s kind of stuck.

It’s a very peculiar problem, a lot of people faced similar issues in the past and none of their solutions seems to work for me. I’ve been trying to diagnose the error related to the network driver as well as “No WAN IP found.” Nothing has worked so far.

After running a journalctl -u systemd-resolved the logs reported back with:

Using degraded feature set UDP instead of UDP+EDNS0 for DNS server ::1.
Using degraded feature set TCP instead of UDP for DNS server ::1.
