Intel 9460/9560 Bluetooth (8087:0aaa) HCI stall – device remains in lsusb – Kernel 6.18.x

  • Manjaro Linux
  • Kernel: 6.18.12-1-MANJARO
  • BlueZ: 5.86
  • Bluetooth device: Intel 9460/9560 Jefferson Peak
  • USB ID: 8087:0aaa
  • Firmware: intel/ibt-17-16-1.sfi

Issue Description

Bluetooth randomly stops working during runtime.

Important observations:

  • Device remains present in lsusb
  • No USB disconnect events in dmesg
  • No firmware crash logs
  • WiFi (same Intel combo chip) continues working
  • Bluetooth service remains running

Reloading btusb restores functionality:

sudo modprobe -r btusb
sudo modprobe btusb

This suggests a driver stall rather than hardware failure.

dmesg (boot firmware load)

Bluetooth: hci0: Found device firmware: intel/ibt-17-16-1.sfi
Bluetooth: hci0: Firmware revision 0.1 build 201 week 12 2024

Troubleshooting Already Done

  • Disabled USB autosuspend
  • Disabled WiFi powersave
  • Disabled iwlwifi power_save
  • Tested LTS kernel
  • Verified no rfkill block

Issue persists.

No USB resets or timeouts are logged when the failure occurs.

Is this a known regression in kernel 6.18.x affecting btusb?
