Installing network-r8168 does not work (no internet)

mhwd --listinstalled

> Installed PCI configs:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
                  NAME VERSION FREEDRIVER TYPE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
           video-linux 2018.05.04 true PCI
         network-r8168 2023.09.12 true PCI

I have it listed, but once I do I can no longer access the internet. I’m now using r8169 driver and that one is working.
The reason I wanted to try '68 is because of some lag issues I had in one MMO game I wanted to try.

As I understand it, there is already a kernel driver/module baked into the default kernels which should already handle r8168/r8169 chipsets, without installing an additional driver.

Perhaps someone can clarify this further. @cscs

If I recall correctly this was a nicety when there was no in-kernel module.
Now there is a newer one that is in the kernel … and so this mhwd profile plays the reverse role of being a legacy some can choose if their hardware (or more likely/accurately the old kernel they are using) needs it.

If trying to enable it breaks your networking … then … I would say you dont want to use it.
