Installing and using XLibre on Manjaro

Hi, everyone! Has anyone successfully got XLibre working on Manjaro?

I’m currently using Manjaro + Wayland + GDM + GNOME with all updates applied.

I ran the install script as instructed here:

$ sudo sh -c "$(curl -fsSL https://x11libre.net/repo/arch_based/x86_64/install-xlibre.sh)"

The XLibre packages got installed, but I don’t know how to use it.

I tried disabling Wayland and switching to LightDM without success. Whenever I run:

$ echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE

I get wayland.

I found no option to start XLibre then GNOME.

At least I didn’t loose access to my everyday GNOME desktop trying things…

Gnome no longer supports X11, so you won’t be able to use it with xlibre.

Many thanks! I was not aware of that…

According to a quick search, there are some desktops that still support X11, including XFCE, Cinnamon, MATE, LXQt and LXDE.

Just out of curiosity, I decided to give Cinnamon a try:

$ sudo pacman -S cinnamon cinnamon-wallpapers cinnamon-sounds

Then with LightDM I started a Cinnamon session.

I can confirm that I’m running XLibre on Manjaro:

$ echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE
x11

$ sudo X -version

Do you know something that works with XLibre that does not work with Wayland? The Resize feature of the Web Developer Google Chrome extension.

Check the Spins section of the forum. Some spins use it by default.

It sucks Arch took XLibre of the repo.

Other than the various AUR packages (which are what I’m using), I don’t remember it ever being in the Arch repos.

Spoon feeding seems needed here. Somebody just set a repo for this and testers are needed. Still, besides DelinuxCo check also the Sbk spins, i think he also had a xlibre flavour.

I just updated all of my XLibre-based Manjaro systems - no problems with any of them. These systems were already running on XLibre (with the same package versions), so I didn’t expect any issues, other than maybe from the new repo.

Linux Mint ditched Ubuntu as a base, so big things happen sometimes. Still on Wayland though….

I don’t know where you got that information, and I am sorry, but I am not going to watch yet another YouTube talking head — and in Portugese for that matter — but it’s not true.

What is true is that Mint has for several years already been offering LMDE, which is a long-term-support release directly based upon Debian. But the “normal” versions of Mint are based upon Ubuntu, and the next release is either way also still going to be based on Ubuntu.

Ok, I thought the whole point of the video was that. Why did they ditch the Ubuntu installer? I misundrestood, apparently. He never really said Debian is the only base now, but why say they ditched the Ubuntu installer? I only said, what it sounded like to me. Odd, it is english audio for me, no translation ad on also.

It has original Portugese audio and machine translated audiotracks for English and Spanish.
