Installation Problem, I see black screen and no idea does it continue or not

About Me:

After using windows for 20 years I’ve started using Linux this month with manjaro. Thank you all for this beautiful OS.
Firstly I’ve installed Manjaro Gnome 20.2 my PC without any problem. Using it for 2 weeks.
I decided to install Manjaro to our old PC too.But I couldn’t.

About PC:

A desktop PC from 2008.
Motherboard : Asus m3a
Cpu: AMD Phenom 9500 Quad-core
Graphic Card: ATI Sapphire
RAM: 3GB
BIOS-UEFI: BIOS
MBR-GPT: MBR

About Problem:

1- I boot the PC with USB,
2- Select boot with open source,
3- Went black screen for 5-10 minutes then started,
4- Finally, I see the gnome desktop with welcome Manjaro and I select launch installer,
5- I select erase disk option and swap without hibernate (i wondered why there is no option for user info, timezone setting etc. this time.)
6- I confirm the new partition settings and installation started
7- installation was about 15-20% and the screen became black screen again, PC is working but I can’t see anything on screen.(like a sleep mode after no action some duration)I don’t know if installation continues or not. I’ve been waiting more than an hour.

What can be the reason?
Should I wait until somethings appears on screen, or should I power off the computer?

Hi and welcome to the forum !

Not sure about the reasons, but with some more info you can probably find out :slight_smile: Your CPU and motherboard are supported as far as I can tell, the video, I’m not sure since there is a broad range cards that fall under the radeon umbrella. If you can post the specific card you use there might be a user who can help you.

To get the specifics, in a terminal when booted in the live environment using open source drivers run this command: inxi -Faazi and paste the output in this thread like so:
```
your output here
```
You can, with the specific card version\type, also search this forum for a solution.

Thank you Hanzel, I reboot PC, reach live enforcement again run the command you mentioned. Here the section about Graphics

OK. I restart booting and installed manjaro again. It took more than 7 hours, i don’t know why.

If anyone read this post for a solution, i suggest them to wait till installation fully completed. I clicked somewhere on the screen every 3-5 minutes to keep screen alive so it didn’t turn black screen.
