Inkscape sidebar grows upon interaction

Hi folks,
I encountered the following issue with Inkscape on one of my Manjaro installs:

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Select an object on the canvas
  2. Select ‘Fill and stroke’
  3. Select ‘Pattern fill’
  4. Manipulate opacity slider (or anything in that area)

As you manipulate the slider, the sidebar grows. It cannot be resized back down until a restart of Inkscape.

This problem occurs only with the Manjaro package and not with the official Flatpak or AppImage. It occurs only on one specific Manjaro install. Thus, I deduced it might have something to do with my configurations. However, deleting ‘preferences.xml’ does not fix the issue. Neither does removing Inkscape via sh sudo pacman -Rn .

Consequently, I am wondering whether there is anything left to try.

I can reproduce the issue. It doesn’t seem to be related to Inkscape’s config (I deleted the whole directory).

Why would you run the command through sh?

I’m sorry. The ‘sh’ after three backticks was just an ill-advised attempt to add syntax highlighting.

AFAIK you can’t have syntax highlighting with a single backtick (like `echo hello`), but you can put 3 backticks around it like so:

```
echo something
sudo pacman -Syu
sudo rm /something
```

which will give you this:

echo something
sudo pacman -Syu
sudo rm /something

I think it autodetects the language, but you can specify it:

```python
for i in range(10):
print(f"hello world {i}")
```

for i in range(10):
    print(f"hello world {i}")

I just tried this on my system, I have the AppImage version installed and it does not have this issue.

Maybe download the AppImage version and see if it does it.

@800080 already mentioned appimage and flatpak don’t have this issue.

Oh my, I did not read that correctly. My apologies.

It likely has something to do with Wayland, as I also tend to get it at various times with various programs, but it never happened with x11.

But, in my case, restarting the application usually fixes it.

I’m still on mate and they haven’t finished porting it to Wayland yet. :man_shrugging:

Well, in that case I join your sentiment: :man_shrugging:

So you have multiple Manjaro installs?

How do they differ?

Mostly, they differ in the hardware they run on. The issue occurred on my main machine, a desktop with an NVIDIA GPU and two screens:

I haven’t found any related issues on their issue tracker, but I might not have found the right search terms.

I also have an NVIDIA GPU, and 3 screens (one is usually off).

Seems like a lead.

I, too, have Nvidia and two screens…

Same problem on regular Arch and Manjaro. Both X11 and Wayland. On all my PCs. Ubuntu PPA is affected too. Only OpenSuse TW works fine, weird.
