Img files for Raspberry Pi 4 XFCE and i3 damaged after extracting

Hello everyone,
I downloaded the img file for Raspberry Pi 4 XFCE 21.04, decompressed it and when I want to mount it or open it in Virtual Box, Windows says the file might be damaged. The checksum of the .xz file is correct and I used 7z as well as XZ Utils to decompress it, but the result was the same. I also asked a friend to try it on his system (Win 10) and he got the same error.
After that, I downloaded the img file for Raspberry Pi 4 i3 20.10 and got the exact same problem.

Does someone know what I am doing wrong or what the underlying problem might be?

Thanks in advance!

Can virtual box run arm ? I thought virtual box could only run the same architecture as the host machine (certainly used to be like that). You might need qemu to run arm

The images we create for ARM is not meant for Live Session or Virtualization.
They are meant to be flashed directly to the devices storage device and boot into an installed system.

So don’t expect your use-case to work.
