Icon Only Task Manager from the plasma bar, seems to be ignoring the audio indicator setting. it’s always on

Please give a detailed decription of your issue.
I note that the Icon Only task manager usually has no audio settings; at least, none that I am aware of. Are you perhaps referring to some other widget?

The Task Manager is the area showing running programs and pinned icons.

The System Tray shows entries (including Volume). It is also possible to have more than one Volume control, you can install more (I had Win7 volume control before Plasma 6, and could have more than one showing).
Selecting ‘Always Hidden’ certainly hides it for me, and ‘Show when relevant’ makes it magically re-appear.
First of all, try launching Users
in the System Settings (type Users in krunner) and then +Add New
Test (passwd test)… Apply, then log out and log in to Test to see if the issue still exists.
I installed manjaro on a fresh system, yesterday. That system now also this issue.
The issue appeared after applying the latest stabel updates.
That setting does not hide the indicator - if you launch Strawberry, for example, and play music - you’ll see it.
This is not an issue.
The option is ‘Use audio indicators to mute tasks’.
That setting only decides if clicking that icon will toggle mute the application.
If you turn that off, the indicator still shows audio playing, but you cannot mute by clicking it.
Something did use to hide that indicator. (and the media controls in the hover) What else could it be?
There’s no setting for that - I don’t remember there ever was one, but then I never sought to disable it because it’s useful to know where to go when you need to stop sound from a specific source.
Is there a reason for you needing to disable this useful feature?
yea, I guess I could live with that indicator. It actually is useful as you say.
Earlier, I didn’t notice that the media controls on the hover were back too. Those are actually annoying. I don’t want to use them, so it’s just useless clutter for me.
And I think they introduce a (short) lag in the graphics output. (making you skip frames in obs). I don’t really know if it is because of the media controls. But I already deactivated the preview image. And I don’t think just showing the window title would cause that.
I consider this solved. I will either look into making an edit of the widget or try to live with it.
I might also leave plasmashell behind i don’t know yet. Currently trying to figure out if one still can combine plasmashell with i3. I found some guides to to that, but they are pretty old.
