I need help with the latest mkinitcpio.conf.pacnew file

old

HOOKS=(base udev autodetect microcode modconf kms keyboard keymap consolefont resume block filesystems fsck)```

new

HOOKS=(base systemd autodetect microcode modconf kms keyboard keymap sd-vconsole block filesystems fsck)```

i see two differences; consolefont vs sd-vconsole and resume vs nothing.

do i need to change or add something?

My HOOKS() were basically the same as yours. I replaced the hooks completely with the new recommendations from the .pacnew file. There was a warning during boot that annoyed me, so I removed sd-vconsole and put back consolefont.

It seems to be working as expected, but now with a slightly faster boot. Of course, that would likely be attributed to also removing Plymouth.

If you wish to know more about these hooks, there is a list at the following link with descriptions:

i’m not sure but sd-vconsole seems to be related to encryption(which i don’t use) and Resume to resume from hybernation.

it seems fine to me as it is,

i’ll leave it like that.

Thanks.

Neither do I, however sd-console seems to be a repacement for keymap and consolefont – the only thing mentioned about encryption relates to it’s position in the array:

Here, the systemd hook replaces the resume for hibernation (as well as several other hooks). I also saw a forum post briefly that suggested this might not be a good idea for everybody. I’m afraid I didn’t keep the link.

Regards.

the .pacnew contains the new defaults

the difference between what you have and the new default is only the “resume” hook

put it in between “sd-vconsole” and “block”

make a copy of your original file, so you can go back if you want to for some reason

Just to be clear, the change is as of now not obligatory. The new defaults are a optimisation, but the old ones still work. Besides, there is the exact same topic already.

And they are redundant. See my post here.

The resume hook is no longer needed if you have the systemd hook.

Correct - thank you for the reminder!
I just looked at the table here again:
