I can't move files on Dolphin

So yeah, hi. I don’t really know how to request help regarding the issue I’m experiencing and I’m quite new to linux, so I ask for a little bit of patience and apologize for anything wrong.

Well, I’m using manjaro, the plasma KDE (I think I should say this?) and dolphin as the file manager.
I don’t really remember if in the last installation of manjaro I encountered this problem, but whenever I try to copy and paste, cut and paste or even drag and drop files within the same instance (window?) of dolphin I get an error message: “The file or folder Message recipient disconnected from message bus without replying does not exist.”.

I tried to search online for a solution but was unable to. One thing that I could find is that, when using sudo to open Dolphin, I can copy, cut, drag and do whatever with the files. But, when I try to do the same without root it doesn’t work.
I used:

pkexec env DISPLAY=$DISPLAY XAUTHORITY=$XAUTHORITY KDE_SESSION_VERSION=5 KDE_FULL_SESSION=true dbus-launch dolphin

to open dolphin and it asks for the super user password.
After opening Dolphin, the following message repeats 13 times on the konsole.

QStandardPaths: XDG_RUNTIME_DIR not set, defaulting to '/tmp/runtime-root'

When cutting the files and pasting them from the subfolder to the main folder it post the following message on the konsole.

kf.kio.widgets: Failed to check which JobView API is supported "The name org.kde.kuiserver was not provided by any .service files"

It doesn’t seem to repeat the message when repeating the same action (cut and paste).

I thank you in advance for your time. I would also ask you for instructions on how improve the data I provided on the issue if necessary.

Edit: And if someone has any tips on how to improve the formatting of the post I would be forever grateful.

Edit 2: Some formatting on the post and the system info:

Just install kio-admin and in context menu will appear option “Open as Administrator” - use this and do what you want

Man, I sure feel like when, as a kid, I was learning how to use windows. I installed it through the add/remove software, but I can’t seem to find how to open dolphin as a admin, I tried searching the context menu that appears when I right click Dolphin, either it’s icon or inside it.

This option appear if you try open something that not belong to your user

I put the above in a internet search and found several others with this problem, but no solution. It maybe a bug explained here 473733 – Dolphin unable to copy or move files "The file or folder Message recipient disconnected from message bus without replying does not exist."

Sounds like something is broken.
Forcing ‘root dolphin’ may be novel for some extra insight, but should in general not be used, and can easily lead to further problems if one is not careful.
It may indeed be a bug, though I cannot reproduce it, nor could I at any time previously (having been running plasma for some years).

According to the bug thread:
Supposedly downgrading to dolphin 22.X fixed it for some, while others could workaround by ensuring certain kernel options.

Though I might wonder still about things like dbus,dbus-broker, and/or pacnews.

Oh, I may not have been able to describe the problem as it is, english isn’t really my first language. It is everything done in the same user, like dragging desktop files into a folder located in the same desktop.

I think you are right on the mark, unfortunately :frowning:

I wasn’t really using the konsole command to open it as a super user because most were saying that it shouldn’t be done. I most likely would trash another installation. I will search for a way to downgrade it or use other file manager.

Thanks cscs and everyone that tried to help. o/ I’m glad that linux has a community like this, makes me quite relieved.

For pacnews you can print them all with

pacdiff -o

( for more info on how to deal with them see the wiki or search, ex: User Selection in Login Screen does not show default user - #20 by cscs )

To try downgrade you can use

sudo pacman -Syu manjaro-downgrade

Then

sudo downgrade dolphin

I’m a bit ashamed to say this, but it worked! Idk what I did after that broke my installation but it did work (I’m pretty sure it was unrelated to this fix). But, the 3rd installation (the current one) didn’t?

What I can say that may be the cause or related is (probably not, but idk and maybe nobody knows):

This and the previous attempt to install manjaro, I had to do it without internet connection until booting the system. My motherboard is old and don’t handle more than one usb with data (I use a phone to connect to wifi and pass it through with usb), so I couldn’t install with an internet connection.

I wanted to reply first before tagging your answer as the solution as I don’t know if the post will close when I do that.
