How to change "default" Sound Input Device (System wide) because Apps and games used the wrong Device

I used Discord Voice Chat function 2 days ago for the first time and the people in Discord cant hear me but only my ingame sound and desktop sounds, the same issue happends with a few ingame voice chats, where the games forced me to use the wrong default sound device.

I have no problems with my microphone in Mumble Voice Chat, everything is flawless there.
Because i have the freedom to choose the right sound input device:

[front:CARD=Creative,Dev=0] HDA Creative, CA0132 Analog Front Output / Input

But nothing works in Discord (and in games) and it shows under Input Device only “Alsa Output” available… i dont see any other devices.

As a Sample: When i use voice chat activation ingame (deep rock galactic), i have the same problem… only the ingame sound gets mirrored for the other people in the lobby (when i press the push to talk button).

Is there any fix/workaround?

Mumble input is using a direct ALSA connection to Creative CA0132 card that would exclude other applications from using audio devices, including PulseAudio
Discord uses PulseAudio and cannot connect to ALSA
If the microphone input is already in use by Mumble in ALSA it would not be available for Discord

To use Mumble and Discord at the same time with the same microphone input, change Mumble to use PulseAudio inputs and outputs instead of ALSA

I never wanted to use 2 voice chats at the same time and i never did this. I just wanted to show with that screenshots a example that mumble is working but Discord not.

Mumble would use per default Alsa Output same as Discord but it wont give me a option to switch it, instead it force me to use the “Default Device” you can see it on the screenshot from discord.

My Micro isnt working with that device but instead it mirrors my Full Desktop Sound and all other application to the other people in the discord lobby.

How can i fix this?

Is there a way to tell the OS which device i prefer as a new “default sound input”?

Discord can only use available PulseAudio sources as input device

Please post more information about PulseAudio card configurations

Check availability of the CA0132 card microphone source: alsa_input.0b:00.0.analog-stereo
and check it is not muted or suspended

If the card Profile is configured for duplex (output & input) audio:

There should be 2 sources for CA0132 card available in Discord and pactl list sinks

How i gonna check this? My Microphone isnt muted in Discord, if you talking about “specially” this kind of mute.

I only see 1 device under input:

alsa_output.pci-0000_0b_00.0.analog-stereo.monitor

And thats why other people in discord only can hear my desktop/ingame sounds and their own voices (mirrored) in discord, when i use voice activation.

Simply switch the profile to duplex in pavucontrol for example. At the moment, the pulseaudio profile is set to output only. It has to be output:analog-stereo+input:analog-stereo".

I agree @megavolt’s suggestion. pavucontrol is a better tool for this than KDE audio settings

you may need to install QT version of PulseAudio Volume Control pavucontrol-qt

Go to pavucontrol Configuration tab and find the Profile for CA0132 Sound Core3D card

Change Profile to Analog Stereo Duplex ( output:analog-stereo+input:analog-stereo)

And click the padlock icon on the right to lock the card Profile

Discord should now have 2 input devices. Microphone input should be listed as alsa_input.pci-0000_0b_00.0.analog-stereo
