High RAM usage stops audio

When I do some tasks like opening more Firefox instances, with media playing, or running some code etc - whenever the RAM usage is high, the system freezes for a few seconds, and my sound just stops. To be precise, I suspect something happens to Viper4Linux installed in my device. When the sound goes silent, I have to “Reload Driver” in V4L in order to get it to work again.
There is only 8GB RAM and I know it isn’t a lot. But why is sound the only thing that gets stopped when the system is frozen?

Some times the entire V4L gets terminated. Then, I have to go to Audio Mixer, mess with configuration and reopen V4L.

My inxi output:

I am not an advanced user. It took a lot of work to get sound work when I first installed Manjaro + V4L. Since then, I didn’t dare touch anything that works.
Used to plug my headphone directly to PC front output. Same story back then. But since migrating to HDMI, I plug them into the monitor, because it is chosen as default sound output on every reboot.

Sound is usually working - but to get a decent tone it may need adjustment.

Are you sure you need the Viper4Linux ?

Disclaimer:
I am not associated with the awesome mates over at Viper. I wish I was, but it is what it is. (Jason, you’re particularly awesome.) You can find their git here: vipersaudio (Euphy Wong) · GitHub and their site here: http://vipersaudio.com/blog/

While all my software is free (GPL), theirs is not. This (my) software makes use of their non-free libraries. I have kept these libraries separate from this code, but it is dependent on them. You can find all the necessary instructions below.

DOES NOT WORK WITH DEEPIN (very well). Check the deepin branch for a patched version. (Props to topjor for this fix.) There is a bug in Deepin where any new audio streams are forced to go to the “default” output device even if they are specifically told to go elsewhere. Please harass the Deepin devs for me.
GitHub - noahbliss/Viper4Linux: Implementation of the libviper library for modern Linux desktops.

Which means you are using some proprietary libraries - which I suspect is not from the Manjaro repo.

This essentially put your issue in the unsupported category - we cannot help you with third party applications - please seek upstream for support.

Oh, okay. Can I at least control which app gets canned or not when the RAM usage is high? I think I set the priority or something once with the help of ChatGPT. Didn’t work.

Please provide inxi -zv8 so we can try to help you.
Do you have swap activated ?

There is no better substitute for more RAM than
more RAM

Here you go.

Data from pulseaudio.service is showing a lot of buffer underruns

Viper4Linux and JamesDSP contain a number of audio processing effects that can enhance sound, or have a detrimental effect on human hearing if misused

Each individual effect when turned on requires more RAM to buffer audio and adds latency to the audio stream

Type: Desktop Mobo: N/A model: H110
    UEFI: American Megatrends v: 5.12 date: 12/31/2020

Motherboard manufacturer might have a BIOS update

Kernel 6.11 has reached EOL and is no longer supported; it has also been removed from Manjaro repositories. It is highly recommended to switch to another kernel at your earliest opportunity.

Kernels 6.12 (LTS) and 6.6 (LTS) are suggested.

Regards.
