Headset's microphone doesn't pick any sound

I found many issues on the forum related to mine; I apologize for making one more post, but none of those threads allowed me to solve the issue.

When I plug in my (jack) headset, or my Bluetooth headset, which are both equipped with a microphone, the two options for the microphone in settings (“Headphones Stereo Microphone” and “Digital Microphones”) do not change (they’re already there when nothing is plugged in).
What’s more, I made sure that “Digital Microphone” picks up sounds from my laptops built-in mics, and “Headphones Stereo Microphones” never picks anything, no matter what is or isn’t plugged in.

Here’s the output of inxi -zv8:

And finally I double checked that on my other Manjaro laptop, both jack and Bluetooth headset work normally (their mics are detected alright).
Both computers are equally up to date.

Thanks!

It seems after more tests (that I could only do now, since they needed other jack headsets, which I didn’t have) that headsets mics work in Bluetooth, but no microphone works when the headset is jack-connected.

Is anyone familiar with that problem? Or has any idea about it?

Thanks.

I am aware that there are two wiring standards for these four-pole plugs and that they are not (normally) interchangeable. Maybe this is the issue?

These standards are CTIA or OMTP.

CITA:

  1. Microphone
  2. Ground
  3. Right audio
  4. Left audio

OMTP:

  1. Ground
  2. Microphone
  3. Right audio
  4. Left audio

… found here.

Note: on mine, that site pops up a “View” dialog EVERY time the page is scrolled.

Thanks a lot;

On mine too… It makes it pretty hard to read
I’m not sure how to test whether the issue comes from that wiring; at any rate I don’t have the tools nor the knowledge to explore that possibility…
