I’m using KDE. the headphones show up from the bluetooth menu item but when I click connect it hangs, then just disconnects. I have the earbuds in pairing mode. I also disabled bluetooh on my phone because i thought that was interfering.

I don’t have issues with paring my JBL headphones. Try connecting to your phone first (disconnect Bluetooth on computer) to see if the headphones are not the issue. If it worked, disconnect Bluetooth on the phone, enable on the computer and try connecting to it.
Alternatively, try connecting another Bluetooth device to your computer to see if it works.
Basically, you must first establish, where the problem lies, with the device or the computer.
