Headphone jack not recognized properly

This morning my headphone jack worked as intended as a headphone/mic combo, I later was able to run a full system upgrade because I had this morning also just installed manjaro. After the full system upgrades through the package manager, Pulse Audio no longer detects my headphone jack as headphones, only the mic that’s on the headset.

I’m on a Lenovo ThinkPad, that’s dual booted with Windows 10. The headphones work just fine on windows.

After looking around I found some commands that might be helpful :

had similar problem with switching to pipewire.
can you check on
Volume control > output devices
your headphone is selected as fallback.

if it doesn’t help run pactl info

Volume control only has my speakers listed in the drop-down:
here’s pactl info

I also tried remaping my pins with HDA jack tasking but the mappings I tried didnt work. Although im not completely familar with it.

pactl info [kira@Bag ~]$ pactl info Server String: /run/user/1000/pulse/native Library Protocol Version: 34 Server Protocol Version: 34 Is Local: yes Client Index: 19 Tile Size: 65472 User Name: kira Host Name: Bag Server Name: pulseaudio Server Version: 14.2 Default Sample Specification: s16le 2ch 44100Hz Default Channel Map: front-left,front-right Default Sink: alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1f.3.analog-stereo Default Source: alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1f.3.analog-stereo.monitor

Restart manjaro and plug your headphone jack and check on journalctl -b

if you see errors for pulseaudio back up these folders, remove them and reinstall pulseaudio just to make sure

mkdir ~/pulsebackup
cp -r ~/.pulse ~/pulsebackup
cp -r ~/.pulse-cookie ~/pulsebackup
cp -r ~/.config/pulse ~/pulsebackup
rm -r ~/.pulse ~/.pulse-cookie ~/.config/pulse
sudo pacman -S pulseaudio

and restart, hope it helps.

I dont have any of those folders specified before restart, and i wasnt sure If i saw any errors or not, the headphone jack wasnt detected when I first booted into manjaro, so i have two logs for before and after I repluged in the jack

I also now after restarting have only ~/.config/pulse, still no ~/.pulse files exist
Headphones still dont work

PulseAudio deprecated use of files ~/.pulse and ~/.pulse-cookie many years ago

All user configuration files for Pulseaudio are stored in folder /.config/pulse/
To clear PulseAudio user configuration only requires deletion of the cookie and the database files

rm ~/.config/pulse/cookie ~/.config/pulse/*.tdb

Reinstalling pulseaudio with pacman should not be necessary. New configuration files will be created by PulseAudio after system reboot

The 3 pastebin links are showing message Error, this is a private paste or is pending moderation but I do not expect data from there to help much

UPDATE: For some reason, I was having some mic issues in discord, and I checked pulse audio and it showed no microphone, then I checked in HDA Jackretasking and it showed pin 0x16 as headphones. They work, for now, I have no issues as of now. Unsure why…

The only change since yesterday and today I have installed some intel drivers, none of which I think were audio related.

PulseAudio Profile is set for audio output only

set-card-profile alsa_card.pci-0000_00_1f.3 output:analog-stereo

The only available recording source is the monitor of the audio output

set-default-source alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1f.3.analog-stereo.monitor

This sink.monitor can record desktop audio, but if it was used for a VOIP call the caller would only hear desktop audio with their voice echoed back at them

I suggest you change the PulseAudio profile to allow audio capture

pacmd set-card-profile alsa_card.pci-0000_00_1f.3 output:analog-stereo+input:analog-stereo

And change the default source to the microphone source-input

pacmd set-default-source alsa_input.pci-0000_00_1f.3.analog-stereo

Your audio device is using the snd_hda_intel driver that does not support the internal digital array microphones
But you should be able to see the headset microphone available as an Input Device when it is plugged in - pavucontrol --tab=4
