Start the program from a terminal and post the entire output … or is this the only message you get back?

If you post the output, please format as “preformatted text” → this symbol: </>
so that it looks here like what you see in your terminal.

gscan2pdf is starting, but won’t do any scanning for me. The only message I see in the app is “gscan2pdf: must open device before starting scan”.
The scanner IS connected and switched on, but probably not found by the system ?
On the commandline there are these messages:

Edit: On this same system I also have Debian SID installed, and there the scanner works with the same version of gscan2pdf…

Thanks !
Eddy

what follows is speculation, but not totally out of thin air:

if you have a camera and a scanner, you effectively have two capable devices
and from that it would follow that you’d have to select which one you’d like to use.

In your output, there is no scanner device
(probably USB connected, but I don’t know, of course)
present.
No USB info at all.

Perhaps install a “regular” scanner program to test the basic functionality.

SANE - ArchWiki

Are your printer/scanner drivers installed?

Have you tested under X11; it might be a Wayland compatibility issue.

If you provide information on your specific printer/scanner, maybe someone can suggest a driver, if needed.

Solved it for myself !
Just needed to reset the config of gscan2pdf. After doing so, it works again…
Thanks guys !
Greetz,
Eddy

You did not format the output as requested … :slightly_frowning_face:

You started your thread with:

Gscan2pdf: sane_start: Invalid argument

and wanted to resolve an issue with it.

that particular message/error does not appear anywhere in your output :man_shrugging:

those are just depreciation warnings which you would not see when not starting it via terminal
not errors

Just take a look at your post.
Clearly, this is not what was requested.

You could either reformat the post according to forum guidelines, and make it more readable for those attempting to help, or delete it completely.

Please take some time to familiarise yourself with Forum requirements; in particular, the many ways to use the forum to your benefit:

Thank you.

Thank you. Nachlese.

Do you have any intention of fixing that post as requested (twice)?

As I have a great deal of difficulty reading instructions, cutting and pasting seems to be my way of repairing problems with Linux, and has for the 25 years I’ve used Linux. As a 72 year old with ADHD, and PTSD from my Vietnam experience, I do not find it easy.

Perhaps it is simpler to delete the post completely, as it doesn’t serve to add any value to the thread in any case.

These instructions may be easier to follow:

1. Click the [] icon beneath your post (to reveals extra icons).

2. Click the icon resembling a rubbish bin (trash can), and this will delete your post completely.

No cutting or pasting needed, but it will achieve the result. The text may appear red for a moment to indicate the post has been deleted.

I hope this was helpful. Cheers.
