Hi,
I am currently attempting to dual boot Manjaro GNOME and Windows 10 off of two separate drives. Currently, the GRUB boot menu does not open on startup. I have read through another post titled “Reinstalled manjaro dual boot no grub menu can’t access windows” trying to find a fix but I think my issue is different, as the op is booting on a single drive with multiple partitions.
I am able to get into both OS’s through BIOS boot override. My boot options are listed as Manjaro and Windows in BIOS. I did not split root and home over the two drives. I am fine with reinstalling both OS’s since this is a fresh system.
I am not sure how, but I was able to view the boot menu randomly one time. It did not have windows boot manager as an option.
GRUB is currently flagged to show menu on timeout in the config file. However, on running update-grub, I have a warning about an unknown device type nvme1n1, which according to GParted is the Manjaro drive.
I can provide screenshots or descriptions of the efibootmgr output and GParted, as well as any additional needed information. However, apparently I am not allowed to post links or screenshots.
I am fairly new to linux and brand new to Arch-based distros, so I don’t really know what other direction to go here. However, to reiterate I do have full access to both OS’s, so I can get any information that would help troubleshoot. I also do not mind doing a full reinstall of both operating systems if need be, as this is a fresh system.
Thank you in advance for any help
Is fastboot and secure boot disabled?
also provide formated output from:
inxi -Fazy
lsblk
sudo parted -l
efibootmgr -v
update: was able to get the grub menu showing but no windows option. I am exploring the options in the Stack Exchange post titled: “GRUB does not detect windows”

also, fast boot is disabled. I am going to go check on secure boot, I know that’s typically a bios option but I didn’t see it on first pass. I will go look again.
edit your post by putting the outputs into this icon: </> in the editor… all right check the bios settings…
also, i was able to make a custom grub listing following the post instructions but it says invalid efi path
sorry, do you mean wrap in the tags like
<content/>
or something else? It doesn’t seem like that tag is changing anything in the preview
no, in the editor click 4x times this icon: </> and put the outputs there
update: I found secure boot in BIOS, but it doesn’t look like there’s an option to disable it.
In the Secure Boot menu, there’s a Secure Boot heading and a Key management heading.
Under secure boot, there’s a selector box called secure boot state that is greyed out and selects “user”
Platform Key state lists “unloaded”
OS Type lists either “Other OS” or “Windows UEFI”, and “Other OS” is selected.

since you managed to show grub, is windows detected when you run: sudo update-grub
?

don’t think so, not showing on restart either
I was able to mount the windows install drive so I have access to those files as well.
what is the output from this command:
test -d /sys/firmware/efi && echo efi || echo bios
~ sudo test -d /sys/firmware/efi && echo efi || echo bios ✔

efi
disabled all the ones i could find, no dice
it looks like the issue is, that you have installed windows in bios mode, manjaro in uefi mode… and thats why grub is not detecting the windows…
okay, i am going to go through and reinstall everything from scratch. What do I need to ensure everything works correctly?
no need to reinstall… just boot into windows and run mbr2gpt within windows - it will convert your mbr into gpt - search on internet how to use mbr2gpt … when youre done, just reboot, boot into manjaro, run sudo update-grub
, reboot and windows should appear in grub menu…
