Green vertical bars on system startup

It seems like I’m the only one with this issue, and it’s one of the only reasons I switched back to Windows
When I boot up my linux system (Arch-based KDE system) I see these green vertical overlays, and they (very) slowly fade with time
When I sampled the colors they were identical so a screenshot won’t show it, here’s a photo from my phone to demonstrate the issue:

I’m using proprietary NVIDIA drivers, and an AMD cpu, thanks in advance for your help, I really want to see this community grow.

you dont see these lines in non arch distros?

The logs file was too long to send in this reply, I hope this data is enough

post output from this:
inxi -M
maybe there will be an entry in the arch wiki for your machine…

and for the logs, just reboot and post them:
journalctl -b0 -p4 --no-pager

and why did you add these parameters:

to trying to fix the screen? is the issue present also without them?

This sort of graphics failure is caused by the video card.

Yes sir, even with a clean fresh install of Linux it happens

That can’t be possible as this only happens sometimes, and in Windows I’ve never had this issue
Do you think I should switch to open-source drivers for the time being?

Hey, this problem still persists even after a reset, and the open-source drivers are stuttery like a virtual-machine, does anyone else have this issue? I’d be grateful for help

Hey, just a little update:
with video-linux drivers my screen looks sharper than I can remember (I’ve been using the other driver for a month), but it’s extremely stuttery, is there anything I can do for the computer to feel… smoother?

Hello @liamrahum

I could be wrong, but it could be a wrong detection of the screen. Maybe try this:

Add nvidia nvidia_modeset nvidia_uvm and nvidia_drm to /etc/mkinitcpio.conf at the variable MODULES. And run

sudo mkinitcpio --allpresets

That will load nvdias modules as early as possible.

Then add nvidia_drm.modeset=1 to /etc/default/grub at the variable GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT. And run:

sudo update-grub

This will enable KMS (kernel mode setting), which is the default for any open source driver nowadays.

Why? Because I saw on the net related issues to the non-modesetting intel driver on Ubuntu for example, where removing that driver solved the issue of green stripes. It could be worth a try to run nvidia with KMS.

Also for xorg create a file like that:
file: /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-nvidia.conf

Section "Device"
	Identifier	"nvidia"
	driver "nvidia"
BusID "PCI:8:0:0" # bus-id from your inxi output
	#Option "Coolbits" "24"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
    Identifier "nvidia"
    Device "nvidia"
    Option "AllowEmptyInitialConfiguration"
    Option "ForceFullCompositionPipeline" "On"
    Option "ConnectToAcpid" "Off"
    Option "NoFlip" "On"
EndSection

Therefore, allow nvidia to detect everything itself.

But anyhow, I never saw such an issue on nvidia gpus. :man_shrugging:

So I’ve been distro hopping a litte, and I kept coming back to this issue, which links to my last post here, the green vertical bars when I boot into the computer
I’ve tried Manjaro and Pop_OS! (Nvidia ISO) but the issue persisted, but on Nobara(Fedora based) and Arch, it seems to work perfectly.
I still want to come back to Manjaro because it’s more stable than Arch, but this issue just won’t go away.
I’d really like some advice from you all, thanks!

I have never seen such thing - not even when I had Nvidia GPU.

I have a ThinkPad with dual gpu - no green bars on boot.

When it is an issue local to your system there is not much anyone can do.

EDIT: I cannot even recall such topic although I have active in this forum since ~2016

I think a screen shot would be helpful

I don’t have currently Manjaro on my system (Deleted it because of this issue), but when this issue will happen again I’ll try this fix, thanks!
