Graphics related issues after update - AMD Radeon RS-235

Since I updated on 2026-07-24 there are some errors in the journal which seems to be coming from when various applications are run. Or is all this just an indicator of that my graphics card is about to become too old for new drivers?

System update went find, no issues while it ran. Only when I run certain applications (it seems to me), the errors occur.

No, not the graphics card but new graphic drivers might not play well with an old kernel. Notice there is (normally) no reason to run an old kernel if you have an older system. I would update the kernel to at least 6.18 (or 7.1.4 if 6.18 shows the same issues as you get now using 6.12). One of the good things about Manjaro is that managing different kernels is easy (and for the folks with nvidia gpus there are lots of drivers, too :wink:).

I remember seeing similar errors on my laptop some time ago. Unfortunately I can’t remember much more than that, but I think @jofi might be right and that linux618 fixed it.

I don’t have my laptop with me atm, I left it at a relative’s house, so I can’t check anything.

Okay, I switched to 618. I seem to recall there was another issue before, one with dialogs in the wrong order or whatever it was. Perhaps this has been corrected as well.

I have to test this and run a few things to see if it behaves. So far MyPaint doesn’t cause any problems, I’ll test Geany and a few others as well. VLC was also misbehaving.

I’ll mark the first reply as the solution.
