Gnupg broken (dirmngr errors)

gpg: error running '/usr/bin/dirmngr': probably not installed
gpg: failed to start dirmngr '/usr/bin/dirmngr': Configuration error
gpg: can't connect to the dirmngr: Configuration error
gpg: error retrieving '[removed email]' via WKD: No dirmngr
gpg: error reading key: No dirmngr
gpg: error running '/usr/bin/dirmngr': probably not installed
gpg: failed to start dirmngr '/usr/bin/dirmngr': Configuration error
gpg: can't connect to the dirmngr: Configuration error
gpg: keyserver refresh failed: No dirmngr

Had issues updating a computer that hasn’t been used in a few months. tried the guide of remove all keys, reinit, repopulate, reinstall keyrings, and this is where it breaks - a stream of dirmngr errors for every key. If anyone has any suggestions I’d greatly appreciate it. I’d very much rather not backup/fresh install; if this can be salvaged and updated that would be great.

edit: I changed the text to [removed email].

I would reinstall gnupg package, dirmngr is part of it.

$ sudo pacman -Syu gnupg

In case it’s not working use the overwrite flag in addition:

--overwrite "*"

So, that ran the system update, which worked. Thanks! Apparently I was too focused on the keyring errors and just needed to let it update.

After the update I now get a tty screen after booting and have to log in there and launch xfce4 via command. If I could get some bonus help to fix this minor issue (boot to graphical xfce login) that would be very much appreciated. If it would be better to make a new thread I’ll mark this solved and do that.

Thanks again for the quick reply!

Yes please. We maintain a policy of one issue per thread, and this per poster. :wink:
