Gnome-terminal won't work with Cinnamon desktop

I’ve just installed Cinnamon desktop but every time I try to run gnome-terminal I get the following error:

Error constructing proxy for org.gnome.Terminal:/org/gnome/Terminal/Factory0: Error calling StartServiceByName for org.gnome.Terminal: Timeout was reached

This often seems to be a problem with locale.gen but I’ve rebuilt mine with locale-gen and it responds with:

Generating locales...
  en_GB.UTF-8... done
  en_US.UTF-8... done
Generation complete.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
