Gnome + Nvidia 570 + 6.12 LTS Kernel Update Crashing

Team,

Since the past few updates I have been having an issue where, at any point in the run time my screens go black and then gnome fails to load monitors. Looking into the kernel issues I get lots of:

Mar 28 12:30:19 PC kernel: [drm:nv_drm_gem_alloc_nvkms_memory_ioctl [nvidia_drm]] *ERROR* [nvidia-drm] [GPU ID 0x00000a00] Failed to allocate NVKMS memory for GEM object

I have a RTX3070 and when monitoring the vram, it doesn’t come above 80% vram, but am still getting this. Is this a known issue on 570? Seems to be since updating at some point here in March. Prior to 3/7 I was just fine, did updates a few weeks later after moving and suddenly am having this issue across multiple applications. Any help in troubleshooting or known solutions would be great!

Regards.

Please see the Stable Update 2025-03-24 announcement, under Known Issues and Solutions; specifically, the item System may hang during splash screen when Nvidia 570 drivers are used:

See the linked item for a workaround.

A little housekeeping:

Please edit your first post and format the command output as preformatted text (see link below for forum presentaion guidelines). All code and command output should be displayed as preformatted text.

Additionally, please provide system information as described (below). This is usually the minimum information requested.

Welcome to the Manjaro community

As a new or infrequent forum user, please take some time to familiarise yourself with Forum requirements, and the many ways to use the forum to your benefit:

Update Announcements

The Update Announcements contain important information and a Known Issues and Solutions section that should generally be checked before posting a request for support.

System Information

Output of this command (formatted according to forum requirements) may be useful for those wishing to help:

inxi --filter --verbosity=8

or the short form:

inxi -zv8

Be prepared to provide more information and outputs from other commands whenever asked. It’s equally important to provide as much actionable information as possible in your first post, rather than simply indicating there is a problem.

Good afternoon!

I will try the splash thing again. That was the first thing I had done post install when having the issues, but put it back as it’s not a boot up issue, but the system could do this crash at any point.

I have updated the post with my system info and put it into preformatted text!

As a note to your pre-filled support text, I also timeshift and also pre-read the forums for each update, at least since the Nvidia crash a few years ago with regards to 4K DP bug.

Team,

I just realized that the default loaded in with Wayland. I figured out how to get back to X11 (which is what I want instead of buggy Wayland) via some forum digging. Will test to see if my crashes still happen and follow up

Well, short lived hope. Was working well, but walked away for a moment, came back to black screens. Definitely something between Gnome and Nvidia though.
