Hi everyone. I’d like to thank everyone in advance for any help.
I’ve been having an issue with my laptop for a long time now, and I’ve finally reached a point where I can’t go on like this. I’ve asked around everywhere, searched everywhere and I cannot get an answer / solution.
I use Gnome and my laptop is an Asus OLED with AMD graphics. Literally everything works and never had any issues. The problem I have is, when my screen blanks after 5 minutes and I come back to my laptop and move my mouse to unblank the screen, it’s at Max brightness. Given that this OLED display on my laptop is 600nits, you can imagine it’s very bright. But the brightness slider is still where it was before the screen blank, so even if the screen is at max brightness and I just touch the brightness control like in the screen shot. It will go back to the brightness it’s set at.
I’ve tested various distributions and all of the have the same issue when using Gnome. I however do not have this issue with KDE. When the screen blanks on KDE and I unblank it, brightness is normal.
Brightness is at least preserved with Gnome when I log out or restart.
I’ve looked everywhere and I can’t find a solution and it’s becoming a real nuisance and also not safe for the the OLED display. Can anyone help with a solution. This happens on both x11 and Wayland. I use Wayland primarily though.
