Gnome-control-center doesn't open anymore

Hi!

Since last Friday, I can’t open GNOME parameters. So I tried to launch it from the terminal, but that’s the output:

$ gnome-control-center
gnome-control-center: error while loading shared libraries: libaccountsservice.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

So I tried to make a full update (sudo pacman -Syyuu), but to no avail, as everything is up to date. Then I searched if a package was missing:

$ pacman -Ss libaccountsservice
extra/accountsservice 26.13.3-1 [installé]
    D-Bus interface for user account query and manipulation

I even tried with Pamac in case it was something on the AUR which was missing, but it’s the same thing:

$ pamac search libaccountsservice
accountsservice-git  23.13.9-2                                                         AUR
    D-Bus interface for user account query and manipulation
accountsservice  26.13.3-1 [Installés]                                               extra
    D-Bus interface for user account query and manipulation

(I note that there’s a problem with Pamac translation into French; it should say [Installé] and not [Installés] I think.)

Now I’m lost. Should I try to reinstall accountsservice? Something else?

Thank you!

Edit: I wanted to see if something changed if I reinstalled gnome-control-center, and that was the output:

$ sudo pacman -S gnome-control-center
[sudo] Mot de passe de XXX :

:: gnome-control-center - 50.1-1 et gnome-control-center-x11-scaling - 48.4-1 sont en conflit. Supprimer gnome-control-center-x11-scaling ? [o/N] N

So there’s a conflict between gnome-control-center and gnome-control-center-x11-scaling. Is that linked to my problem acccording to you?

This did the trick! I always fear to break something when I remove something I did not directly install… but it was actually the conflict which was the origin of the problem. I just don’t understand why now and not sooner, but that won’t prevent me to sleep ^^.

Thanks!

Please only use the correct command to perform a sync/update:

sudo pacman -Syu

:point_up:

2 Likes

That’s what I do generally, but I read somewhere that a possible cause of my problem was a synchronization problem during an update, and that this command was a solution (it didn’t work).

By curiosity, what would be the risk using only -Syyuu?

If you look at the man page, you will see that a double y forces a download of the databases, even if your local copy of them is up-to-date — which puts an unnecessary extra load on the server — and that a double u allows for package downgrades, which you (normally) would not want. :backhand_index_pointing_down:

man pacman

Yes. You need to allow replacing gnome-control-center-x11-scaling with gnome-control-center. Also make sure to allow replacing mutter-x11-scaling with mutter if applicable. The X11 scaling packages no longer exist.
