Been using Gkrellm for years, stays parked on the far right hand side of my monitor. I noticed after the 8/30 Stable update, network traffic is no longer displayed, either wifi or ethernet. I checked the GKrellm config and its as before., Tried uninstall/reinstall and still no network traffic displayed. So I installed Conky which also refuses to display up/down network traffic. Checked Network under System Settings and cant find anything there that either is different that would prevent either of these programs from seeing traffic. Edit: FWIW System Monitor 6.3.6 still displays network traffic without problems. 2nd edit…Sniffnet installs and runs and sees the Ethernet connection without problems.
GKrellm filled a hole where I was able to see network traffic, temps, CPU usage, some voltages and fan speeds if I so chose to display that. Was out of the way. My desktop gets crowded and GKrellm was out of the way. Is there anything else like that around? Currently running Sniffnet partially buried along with a clock widget stuck off in a corner.
Suggestions?
Anyone? Thanks.
It is kernel regression, hopefully it will be fixed soon.
Gentoo, for example, has already fixed this so all we need is a patched kernel.
FWIW Put Debian 13 on the other drive and tried GKrellm. Internet function is fine, apparently in their kernel reads /proc/net without problems. 13 ships with their 6.12 LTS kernel FWTW.
I just tested - it appears to be working - at least on my system.

You’re on the Unstable branch. linux616 is still at 6.16.4-2 in the Stable branch.
Same problem with Gkrellm that no longer displays my network activity.
My kernel is 6.12.44-3 LTS. So witch kernel to use ?
Just installed the 6.16.4-2 kernel here. Running Stable and its offered in Manjo Settings. I use this system for work , have 2 different installs of Manjaro Stable on it on different drives. I did not install 6.16.4-2 on the daily driver. After boot, GKrellm indicates network speed. I did this more as a Saturday morning lark then out of necessity. I am going to play with the 6.16 kernel over the next few hours and days to see what works and what doesnt. Having said that I probably wont install it on the daily driver which uses 6.12.44-3. Interesting to see if in the next update they patch the problems with the LTS kernels. One must note that 6.16 is one notch below the 6.17 “experimental” offering in settings manager…
Regards
I can confirm that 6.16.4-2 has fixed the gkrellm problem (seems the 6.17 experimental branch has not got the fix).
Been running 6.16.4-2 on the second drive, installed all of the work 'ware on it and it seems more responsive than 6.12- Have had no problems with 6.16.4-2 so far. Also my impression is it handles the same work load more efficiently but this is subjective- seems less system CPU usage and I hear the fan less. So far no gotchas. Good work Manjaro team!
