Gimp keeps crashing with segmentation fault

Gimp crashes with fatal error segmentation fault. Gpu has been upgraded, plenty of memory, made a swap file, and still Gimp crashes under even moderate load demands.

(As an aside, when I try to register as a new user to report the crash to ArchLinux the form will not accept my answer to the Bot check question. Anyone else had a problem with this?)

I’d appreciate knowing about anything that looks suspicious in my system setup that might be contributing to repeated segmentation faults.

Segmentation faults are a memory issue with Gimp probably caused by a bad install. Clear everything out related to Gimp and reinstall.

I doubt Arch is going to help you with Manjaro. Maybe try more general purpose sites, like Reddit or Linux Questions for a 2nd opinion. Don’t forget your fav search engine.

Unless you are using Arch, you are neither eligible to create an account on their forum nor submit a bug report. Please review their forum rules.

Would you register on the Debian forum to report an issue with Ubuntu? Of course not. Capisce?

If that’s the case, then I resent getting a crash screen titled, “GIMP Crash Debug,” with several steps listed under “To help us improve GIMP, you can report the bug with these simple steps:” And being a relative newcomer to Manjaro, which is based on Arch and is Arch compatible, it did not seem strange that clicking on the “Open Bug Tracker” button took me to an Arch Linux location. Why did I get that screen, and why does it open the Bug Tracker without even the merest mention of the aforementioned? There is something seriously wrong here and I wonder how many people have frittered away their time trying to help improve GIMP this way.

And don’t be too sure that I would not cross-report on other OS sites. In my earlier years of experience with Ubuntu and Debian I was almost always impressed by responders’ courtesy, patience and good manners with even the dumbest of issues, as opposed to the fact that not a few responders in the Manjaro forum tend to be of a somewhat prickly nature. Capisce?

Thank you, fbt89. Helpful information.
