I am getting only 50% signal of wifi when it used to be 90-100% in the same room before I had updated all the apps pending. Even if i sit next to the router, I get 66-70% max. This has reduced the internet speed. How can i fix this issue??
WiFi signal strength depends on your location in respect to your Access Point plus the frequency used…
That said it could also be related to your WiFi driver, but you didn’t provide any info about your machine so that is just a wet finger pointing in the air…
This should be the signal to noise ratio.
The signal indicator does not work reliable.
I am using KDE and have obverserved this, too.
This is my inxi output

After some research on the internet i came upon this page, can you try what is suggested here: Poor WiFi Range@ Realtek d723 WiFi driver
(Don’t use the method to edit the /etc/rc.local
file because we use systemd
)
To test you should be able to temporarily edit your kernel-command-line that is used in your Grub menu,
The corresponding kernel-command-line option to add would be fe. rtl8723be.ant_sel=1 or rtl8723be.ant_sel=2
Edit: Looks to me as they made a typo on that page, i “think” they meant to write “rtl8723de” instead of “rtl8723be”, so if the above doesn’t work try the corrected name…
If one of them works, you might want to make it permanent with a confg file, see Kernel module - ArchWiki
None of them did work. Is there anything else that could be the problem?
That’s all the info I could find…
Just to be sure, you did try the renamed versions right?
rtl8723de.ant_sel=1 and rtl8723de.ant_sel=2
(Note the one letter difference)
I am facing this problem too. I dont know if the user had this problem solved or not… but after doing a lot of observations and fix attempts, I think
Keruskerfuerst is right.
The indicator simply isnt showing the right readings. The wifi indicator shows just 20-30 % signal, but when i dual boot to windows on the same machine on the exact same location , It shows 100% .
And whats more interesting is that, during heavy networking tasks, The signal momentarily bumps to 100% in manjaro too. And after the intensive tasks ends, it drops to 20% lol.
TLDR: So I think that the problem is not with adapter or it’s driver… Its just inaccurate readings just like @Keruskerfuerst said
similar to the intel-9560 module. these are combined wifi/bluetooth modules and cause trouble while sharing the same hardware especially if powersaving-features are enabled.
search for “iwlwifi 11n_disable” and “bt_coex_activ” etc…
