Gamescope stopped working

I am having the exact same problem since that same update. I even tried a simple gamescope -- vkcube and got

gamescope: types/wlr_linux_dmabuf_v1.c:532: feedback_compile: Assertion `table_len > 0' failed.

No idea where to begin to troubleshoot this. It was working before without issue. I also tried gamescope-plus and some other random versions in the repos, but none worked.

A new support post with the required info (see OP) would be the correct approach, both your situations might be completely different.

When starting an investigation, the best way I’ve found is past the error in a search engine, see what might be relevant, check versions of packages, check what solutions people post.

When unsure what the best approach is, not al distributions are the same… post about it and ask advice.
types/wlr_linux_dmabuf_v1.c:526: feedback_compile: Assertion `table_len > 0' failed. · Issue #1218 · ValveSoftware/gamescope · GitHub seems to suggest that it has been seen and a new version is being prepared/released. If this solves your specific issue is not a given.

Instead of hijacking an old thread, start your own. You can get better help there.

Please provide inxi -zv8 so we can try to help you.

Sorry, I thought adding to that post would be the correct approach, specially considering my problem started at the same time.

(I actually wanted to reply to it right after it was posted, but realised too late my previous forum account doesn’t exist anymore, and got distracted while waiting for a password reset email that obviously never came. But anyway.)

I had seen that github issue before but didn’t think it could be related, given it only started happening to me about a year after it was posted there, so I thought maybe there was something else that changed in the update before last.

I’m not very familiar with downgrading packages though (as the last post on the github thread suggests for a workaround).

downgrade is a package in de extra repo, it can be used (if there is a package in de cache or remote) to downgrade specific packages to test if that solves the issue. This does bring the installation in an unsupported state so this is only a temporary solution.

man downgrade will explain the details.

Edit: the other user had succes with wayland, this might be something to try, however from what I quickly can learn bspwm does not support wayland.

And we also have manjaro-downgrade which should probably be preferred.

Thanks for the replies. I’ll try to figure out if downgrading is possible, temporarily, and it it doesn’t break anything else.

I also just tried building gamescope from the github source instructions and it seems to work >.>

(at least it worked in a quick test with glxgears and heroic)

I guess that’s good news?
