Hey guys, I really don’t know what to do rn, so I’m just going to see if anyone has a clue.
I’ve got a pretty clean install of Manjaro KDE plasma and want to run some steam games, but instead of using the 1660 on this pc the games for some reason decide to fully run on the CPU (5700x) which doesn’t even have an iGPU. From what I’ve been able to check the correct Nvidia drivers are installed, and the GPU is used just not when I try launching a game.
I don’t know what to do, cause all I’ve been able to find are solutions for selecting a different gpu, which i don’t think is the issue here.
1660 is an old card - you may need to look at which driver you are using for the Nvidia GPU.
If it is a laptop install envycontrol and perhaps the accompanying plasma extension.

1660 is in the modern driver group still right, since it uses the same architecture as 2000 series?
I’m sure that I’ve installed it the same way before and it worked just fine.
And this is a desktop pc.
To save myself the trouble I think I’ll take the opportunity to reinstall, or try out a different distro for a bit. Cause I know it wasn’t an issue before.

I don’t think distro change would help much.
MHWD (Manjaro Hardware Detection) usually does a great job detecting installed hardware and automatically install needed drivers…
You may just need a different driver.
And how you are running steam may also affect the hardware detection, I’ve seen some users face such issues with flatpak version of steam, some with native version. (It’s a runtime, so native is also kinda sandboxed I guess)
Please try flatpak version if you haven’t, save some time and effort.
Update, it works fine now.
Reinstall and the issue is gone, maybe I did something weird but it was definitely just the software being confused about when to use the GPU.
Not really a solution, but I’ll just leave it here unless I encounter it again some day.
Reinstalling fixed the issue
