Fresh Installation issue with upgrading, after xfs disk corrupted and computer did not worked after restart

HI, and sorry f there are some incompletions in my report. I got wrong judgement on what went wrong after last error, and I decided that need to reinstall system, but now I need help to complete the installation of the system. I had an instalation liveUSB drive from Starlab-top company, which I used well for reinstalling my labtop in the past. This time I tried to update the system (before installing the labtop first error) on my USB, drive, and it did not worked-out, and since them after the system is installed it seems to be repeating the same issue as it is doing when the live os is loaded from USB drive. When I add refresh database, or I write pacman -SYu *(tried some of these variations -Sc, -Scc, -Rns, not sure where to start writing my report) I end up having highlighted 4 packages:base 3-3, archlinux keyring-20240709-1, manjaro keyring20230719-3. manajro-system-20240401-1. For the very firt time I remember there was one extra keyring with older date, and I did vonfirmed to remove it, and I think that was the original root cause what I will describe bellow, but I do not know any more wehre is my judgement again wrong.

then it asks if to proceed with installation y/n.NO matter what I do, I end up with proceed with full-upgrade, when it offers several files to be replaced y/n*(independently on my combination of y/n) , the result is always the same. It ends up with some files in conflicts. Most often it would say removing llib32-db breaks dependency, lib32-db required by lib32-jack…

I tired the same from CLI or from graphical interface, but still the same results. I tried also to remove db.lck and var/lib/pacman/sync.

I would like to upgrade to KDE plasma asap (because i need to install several softwares to do my works) from my current> 5.8.6.1 64bit Xfe 4.14.2, gtk 3.24.20

I ended in this situation, when I wanted to update a larger video file from my work to share with my mentor over internet from my external drive that used xfs system, which got corrupted the inittrmfs or how is that thing called, and I could not solved it, because it was not taking my root password. Now I have another issue with reinstalling the whole computer on top that it looks that i have to check errors on the xfs drive 1TB itself (and also fat32 drive error with same issue to be fsc for the same issue with date for last several years), and I am already so worried, as it has all my work and all I had downloaded for at 1 year.

I guess there is more issues that I am describing andI wish to start with update the USB disk and my freshly updates system ,which is not wanting to get upgraded, I tried to search some results on the forum, but did not find yet major success. Could somebody please by so kind to try to guide me out of this rabbit hole?

Maybe if you provide the full output.

lib32-db isn’t supported anymore, you should remove it and anything that requires it.

It will be very difficult to upgrade a fresh installation from the 2020 Manjaro ISO that you currently have. There have been so many updates and changes since then that you will likely have a large number of software conflicts and a lot of manual maintenance to do.

You would be much better off downloading the newest release of Manjaro from Download x86 – Manjaro and burning it to a bootable USB (you can do that on your non-updated system by following the instructions at [HowTo] Write a Manjaro ISO to an USB stick with dd - Contributions / Tutorials - Manjaro Linux Forum). You can then use your newly created USB image to install Manjaro’s 2024 release.

I would like to provide the full output, i wish i know which command is needed, as I am not able to update the firefox and the version I have is not fully supported (notsure what it means) by this forum, so I am sending this messages from an another computer. I am glad to know also that I may remove lib32-db,but my databases are not synchronized, so I guess I just cannot remove it. I may try to do it anyway.

thank you it looks like this advice might be doable, will have a look at those right now.
Do you know it the iso file contains calamare app already installed inside the iso instalation like it was on my old bootable USB toi be able to progress installation straight away. plz?

Yes - it contains the installer. I haven’t used it since I installed Manjaro on my new PC last year, but I am fairly sure that I first booted into the USB’s live session and then clicked on the install icon to install it onto my PC’s SSD.

May you advice me if step2 is important. I tried to get sha1sum manjaro.iso.sha1 and out does not say ok. it says that No such file or directory.
When I type it without .sha1 at the end it does print out the has cod.
Is that still ok, or shall I rather download it again?

The sha1sum command should be run without the sha1 extension, so your second method is correct (the first method would give you the checksum for the tiny .sha1 checksum file, not the checksum for the .iso).

On the download page, next to the “Download” button, there is another button called “More”. If you click on that, you will see some more buttons including one called “Checksum”. The number displayed when you click on that should match the number shown in your terminal when you run the sha1sum manjaro.iso command in your terminal. Just make sure that the checksum is for the actual Manjaro ISO that you downloaded (eg: Plasma/GNOME/Xfce minimal/full), as each one is different. If the checksums don’t match, you may need to re-download the ISO.

Once you have installed the 2024 Manjaro version on your PC, you should then install manjaro-iso-downloader from the repositories. When you run it, it will download the latest release & run the checksum test automatically. You can then use a GUI program such as Ventoy or Popsicle (both are in the repositories) to easily burn a bootable USB (or you can use the dd command in a terminal).

It is also recommended that members should always have a recent release of Manjaro available on bootable media in case something goes wrong & they need to run manjaro-chroot from the iso to fix a problem such as being unable to boot into their system after an interrupted update. A recent version also makes re-installing & updating the new installation easier.
