Fresh Install - Configure Virtual Desktops - Changing Rows Not Working Correctly

If I choose 1 row, I get 2
If I choose 2 rows, I get 1

Can’t reproduce, rows: 1 and only one desktop.

Sorry, I have 4 virtual desktops.

May be a misunderstanding on your part.

If you have two virtual desktops (that is the default)
and you choose to have two rows (that is the default)
you get two virtual desktops - the indicator in the panel shows these two, one on top of the other.

If you choose one row, but keep two virtual desktops, the indicator will show the two desktops beside each other instead of one on top of the other.

The panel indicator doesn’t change / reflect the change immediately (for me).
Only after log out and log in again - or perhaps after restarting the session another way.

… two rows and four desktops will show four squares in the indicator - two rows with two squares each … one row and four desktops will get you all four in one row …

Can I please PM you a screenshot?
I won’t do the entire screen.

No need to make this private.

You can post screenshots here, for example:

cURL examples

    Uploading a file:
        curl -F'file=@yourfile.png' https://0x0.st

and post the resulting URL

Or use any other file sharing site you like - that is just the one I know and remember the name of.

No screenshots here to the forum directly, please!

I removed the screenshot. (@Nachlese )
Please do not post screenshots here!

How can you fix bugs without images?

I just told you how and where to you could send your screenshots and give the link to them here. :man_shrugging:

A forum Admin removed my screenshot.
I give up…

Would you accept ASCII Art?

Yes I did.
Post it to somewhere else and provide the link the sharing site gives you.
Post as many as you like this way.

pastebin is one other example file sharing site beyond the one I mentioned - even with instructions

This is where I give up …

How about a description using words? :slightly_smiling_face: - like I did further up?

With 1 Row selected and applied get below:
_________
| | |
| 1 | 2 |
|---|---|
| 3 | 4 |
|___|___|

With 2 Rows selected and applied get below:
_________________
| | | | |
| 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
|___|___|___|___|

Even a fresh install has updates pending.
My system is current - you may not yet have applied them.

In the current state (all pending updates applied) my system is in - I can’t reproduce your issue.

… and I wouldn’t know where to look to assess this seemingly “reverse” behavior

Please, stop referring to everything you don’t understand as a bug. A bug is only a bug if it can be reproduced by others.

Understanding how to configure a feature takes learning.

I don’t know what you expect from your Virtual desktops, but allow me to show how mine is configured:

I have the Virtual Desktops widget configured in my panel, and it currently shows 4 desktops in a row.

System Settings → Window Management → Virtual Desktops:

There are two Desktops configured here by default. I have added two more: Desktop 1, Desktop 2, Desktop 3, Desktop 4.

I configured Rows to equal 1.
I configured the Navigation wraps around option.

So, now we have four Desktops in one row.

From the Virtual Desktops widget I placed on the Panel:

Right-click and select Configure Pager – From here you can adjust how the Virtual Desktops widget appears on your Panel.

There are potentially other configurations you can create for the Virtual Desktops widget – on several rows if you prefer.

To preview how your Desktops can be switched via keyboard use the Meta+G keyboard combination.

Regards.

Note: See this very post for an example of how you can communicate without using images. Use language to its fullest potential; you know, just as we were all taught in school.
