Freezing with kernel 6.12

Hey all,

i’m having the same problem and they also come with kernel 6.12.
Used kernel 6.11 before and switched to 6.12 some days before christmas.

Since than, sometimes, not reproducible, I get the freezes like you described.
Audio works, mouse works, I can also switch the terminals (i think they called so) via CTRL + ALT + F4, but in the UI I can nothing do.
I do a REISUB than, and reboot the PC again.

The freezes occur sometimes after 40 minutes, sometimes after 5 hours.
Sometimes while browsing.
Sometimes while gaming with friends. Also Discord and the communication with them work during the freezes, so I wouldn’t point to the hardware for now.

Anyone a idea how to debug this or how to check whats wrong?

If there are no fixes I will go back to 6.11 in some days

Thank you and best regards

Welcome to the forum! :vulcan_salute:

6.11 is no longer supported. If 6.12 gives you problems, then please use one of the older but still supported LTS kernels, such as 6.6 or 6.1.

Hey Aragorn,
thank you. Did notice this as well after a while.
When I go back, then 6.6

Thank you, too.
I thought that my problem is the same as the problem from the creator of the thread I replied.
I’m used to it that for one problem there shouldn’t be multiple threads, so I replied, but I’m willing to adapt

I think I had a couple minutes ago another freeze (I think, not 100% sure), changed to tty4, and then back to UI via CTRL + ALT + F7 (as i today learned, there I can go back to the GUI) and the freeze was gone :open_mouth:
I will further observer this.

Something soon learned is that no two issues are necessarily the same. Simply using a different DE than the original poster can often make all the difference; that, and totally different hardware.

So-called “me too” posts or “hijacking” of another topic seldom ever gives all parties the individual attention their issues may deserve.

Of course, we do encourage others to post if they might have a solution to another Members issue.

If an issue arises immediately after an update, Members can also mention it in the respective Update Announcement topic; often these issues (and solutions) are already listed in one of those threads. If a particular case needs in depth attention, it is often split to a new Support topic itself.

There are some links given above (that it seems few ever bother to read) that are especially important for newer Members.

Regards.
