Freezing when using Zoom or Skype, only sound is looping

Hello,
sometimes when I am using Zoom or Skype suddenly the screen freezes and the system doesn’t react to anything I’m trying. The only solution I found to leave this state is to press the power button …
However, the last maybe two seconds of sound start to repeat and this won’t stop even if I wait for like 30 minutes.

If I were you I would probably install this (I think the latest 455 series has some issues)

Also … nvidia doesnt work with 5.9 … so before doing that install/select/boot kernel 5.8

This can all be done in the GUI using manjaro-settings-manager.
Orin the terminal using mhwd and mhwd-kernel

I followed your advise. I trust you and I really believe this problem should be solved now.
Finishing this, I would be glad if you could answer two questions:

  • Where did you know from it is an driver issue?
  • Why this only happened sometimes?

I didnt for sure … but your inxi output looked less-than-optimal unless it was intentional:

nvidia cards are best supported by the proprietary driver. As they dont cooperate well with the opensource community the ‘nouveau’ driver is pretty much reverse-engineered.
Next to that your journalctl logs referred to nouveau:


Not sure … but it could have been something about the unconfigured drivers lapsing between eachother (maybe after suspend or similar) … the intel working fine, but nouveau not? I am not sure.

In any case, if everything is set correctly with the PRIME profile you should be using intel by default … and can call the nvidia with prime-run when its needed (like games).
