Freeze occuring in PyCharm IDE

My system completely freezes occasionally when using PyCharm IDE for writing python code. It only occurs, however, after using CTL + V to paste code I have copied using CTL + C…

The mouse still moves on screen during the freeze, however no keys seem to work. I have to hold the power button to reboot.

Anyone heard of something similar to this? I have no clue what to do other than using a different IDE, but I’d prefer not to have to. I could potentially lose work to an issue like this if it freezes and I lose the code I had written.

There’s probably much better ways to do this but my gut reaction would be:

  1. Check systemd logs. This command journalctl -b -1 tells you what happened during the last boot.
  2. Try to replicate keeping System Monitor open in a window (looking at the resources tab). Then watch if cpu or mem have some spike, that will give you an indication at least!

In my case, after I installed the input method sogoupinyin, Pycharm freezes every time when starting. Uninstalling the sogoupinyin solved my problem.

Setting fs.inotify.max_user_watches=524288 may help - but of course this will only help in the case of how many open files the system can handle.

Hmm, I don’t have any additional language inputs on this pc yet… When that happened to you, would it freeze just Pycharm, or your entire computer? Mine was the entire pc.
