While I don’t necessarily agree with the conspiracy theory, I will say that Google/YouTube has many reasons to disdain users like me:
- I prefer Firefox to Chromium-based Browsers.
- I use DuckDuckGo
ose rather than Google Search.
- UBlock Origin. Need I say more?
- I use an extension to allow easy viewing of videos offline.
- I refuse to create a YouTube account (infrequent user).
- I ignore/disable all attempts to upsell to a new feature.
And more.

I try, but unfortunately still struggle. I do block the ever-loving crap out of everything, everywhere, always.
PiHole for me.
Same. I have one, had to use it at a previous job, and I’m signed-in to Google, but don’t really use it for YouTube.
If it needs to be sold, I t end to believe the opposite. Because, if it’s so good, it’d advertise itself. Similarly, if it’s that bad, it’ll come out.
I do believe that’s what they’re trying to achieve. Mostly. Sort of, “is you want to use our services, you use Chrome. End of story. You don’t want to use Chrome? Fine, but then you can’t use our services. At least not to their full potential.”

No more, or less, than any other company with a perceived monopoly of some sort; whether it be a Web Browser, an Operating System; or anything else wherein an opportunity exists to diminish the opponent and increase market share.
It’s business as usual, in my opinion.

Indeed.
It’s very strange and disconcerting how something can start as a very noble thing and get so twisted and warped into the opposite with time…it’s no wonder that companies are, at least relatively, short-lived…
