I don’t have this problem, but I feel compelled to mention the typical fixes. Turn off add ons to see if this is the cause, clear your FF cache and history.
Thanks, I just turned off a few, refreshed a browser window and it was gone. Turned them on again and the problem weirdly did not return (yet anyways).
I cannot reproduce on Stable or Nightly. I would backup current profile and try with a fresh profile with no addons. Most Firefox issues can be traced to a corrupt profile. I am in the habit of backing up my working FF profile on a regular basis.
I haven’t saved my browser history for at least 15 years in any flavour of Firefox and never had any issue. I would, for privacy reasons recommend to erase history at shut down.
Well there would be harm if a user has accumulated years of history when the Bookmarks menu fails to open - if it’s caused by the database corrupting or something - and deleting it means the history is gone.
I do find History is a valuable utility - speed and effortlessly being able to find things… the address bar gets smarter and there’s less need to worry about adding bookmarks to find everything.
It’s zero effort, and keeps everything you didn’t bother saving - specific forum threads or investigations you made last month… and I can reach all of those from my phone when I’m AFK.
Threat models are subjective and personal - if deleting everythign helps you sleep at night, then have at it.
I can’t say I’d have any issue either, other than my -memory-forgettory not being able to retain references to all those site URLs and the plethora of tabs i usually have open.
Not having history is like writing a diary every day but throwing it into the fire each night before going to bed.
I set mine to expire at 36525 days; I will likely do so before then.
