Firefox 89 crash and video trouble

Hello there! After the upgrade to Firefox 89 I get random crashes and choppy out of sync videos on Youtube (works smooth in Chromium). It gets slightly better if I disable all extensions (less crashes, still bad video). Tried removing my .mozilla folder, troubleshoot mode, refresh firefox and reinstalling all firefox packages. Still no luck.

Any help is greatly appreciated because I really like and have a long relationship with Firefox since 1.0

Also posted a question with crash reports over at mozilla:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1338461

Any ideas?

Unchecking the box “Use hardware acceleration when available” under Performance in Settings seems to fix the problem.

Thank you! That seemed to work for me as well.

After todays stable update I can enable hardware acceleration again without any issues  :+1:

I will need to test that on my machine as well then.

Hm, got a few crashes today so I might have been too early :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
I cannot see any performance differences so I will probably leave it off for now. :upside_down_face:

Check your add-ons:

grep -oP '},"name":"\K[^"]+' ~/.mozilla/firefox/*.*default*/addons.json

It’s good to have ublock origin, clearURLs, site bleacher, autotab discard, localCDN

Check if webrender is activated:

Thanks nam1962! Nice terminal way to list addons
Will check out your suggested addons.
Fun trying out FF WebRender
Went from 22 to 9 sec setting gfx.webrender.all & gfx.webrender.enabled to True
