Files being saved as completely NULL

Hello,

I’m working on a project on Manjaro KDE and all the sudden one of my files that was just a text file turns into what VSCode calls a binary file (Upon further examination they were NULL full of ^@). IDK what happened, but the file is gone. I did backup all of my data to an offline drive and then rebooted the computer. Upon boot up, I got a message that said my drive contained errors and they were being fixed. IDK if this is related, but I’m using LUKS encryption on the drive.

Originally I thought the problem was with the drive but I’ve ran a S.M.A.R.T. test and it came back all good. Upon logging in, I also noticed that some configuration things were either reset to their default or completely messed up. For example, my desktop background was changed, and the bottom app bar was at the top only covering 2/3s of the screen, and dark mode was converted to light.

Now that I look at the files that VSCode previously had a problem with they are readable, but completely empty.

Don’t know if it matters but here are some of my system’s configuration info:
Propriety Nvidia drivers
KDE plasma: 5.22.5
KDE framework: 5.87.0
Qt: 5.15.2
Kernel: 5.10.70-1-MANJARO (64 bit)
Graphics: X11
HDD drive: Seagate BarraCuda 1TB (ST1000DM010) connected via SATA cable

  • Which filesystem are you using inside the LUKS container?
  • Let me guess: btrfs?
  • If not btrfs please mention which.
