File selection dialogs have changed

The file selection dialogs (e.g. browser dialog for picking files to upload), (which I believe is a system-wide UI and not an app UI) used to list recent locations, and, as I’m in the habit of moving some files through /tmp before I upload (a lot of uploads are things I don’t want to keep), it would list tmp as a recently used folder, that I could select (and would often default to it if it was the last used folder).

But now, the dialog lists “Recent files” and “Recent Loc…” without actually listing recent locations. And if I click on Recent Loc… it is empty.

Seems like a bug, or a poorly designed “upgrade”.

When the file picker dialog opens, right-click on the left panel and select Show All Entries. Also make sure that the Hide Section “Recent” box is not ticked:

Open System Settings → Security & Privacy → Recent Files and make sure it is set to keep history:

If the setting looks correct, try clearing the history - maybe there is an issue with the database.

Everything seems to be set correctly. Except I don’t have a “Show All Entries” item in my sidebar menu.

The “Show All Entries” option will only show when you right-click on certain areas of the sidebar. Try it with your pointer hovering over the “Places” section heading:

I noticed the change too. It took a little getting used to, but after a few days I stopped thinking about it. If the new dialog is coming from a toolkit update rather than Manjaro itself, there may not be much that can be done except tweaking the relevant desktop or application settings.

That is always the case. We do not modify such things.
