Few issues post latest update

Earlier this week I did my normal system update and I’ve noticed some issues, mostly minor/inconsequential but some more inconvenient. Here’s my current kernel:

Currently running: 5.15.177-1-MANJARO (linux515)

When I try to update packages or do a system update now I get an error about stopping at file system boundary and it exits any update, system or individual package:

I no longer can open Anki, which I use pretty frequently for a variety of things and I consider to be a critical piece of software, and trying to update it lead to the same as above (and wouldn’t have done anything as far as I can tell because I have the most recent version from AUR installed)

The less consequential gripes are more settings that I’m unaware of how to change. My computer now goes into a sort of power sleep after 10-15 minutes which I’d rather turn off, and I use 4 workspaces and despite having my wallpaper/desktop background settings set to be the same for all the workspaces they are only applied to my first workspace. How can I adjust these two things?

Hi, have you tried later LTS Kernels 6.1, 6.6, 6.12?

Have not tried the LTS Kernels, I’ll have to look into switching to them

As it’s a much newer system than mine, I would think the current LTS ones should be fine. I seem to recall having issues with the 5x series, which is why I abandoned them.

Note I’d have more than 2G swap, though. I guess you don’t use the Hibernate functionality but it may be beneficial anyway. Probably 8G w/o Hibernate or 18G if you do intend to use it.

Switched over to linux6.1 but it didn’t change anything. Still unable to update packages, still unable to open Anki, and the wallpaper behavior is unchaged. Unsure about the hibernate behavior but I’m assuming it’s similar based on everything else

Worth trying the others, but re. the AUR database:

pamac update --aur --force-refresh

… might help. :wink:

I don’t think that’s causing the issue with Anki or the others, but it does look like I need to update my hard-drive partitioning. Is there a straightforward way to do this or a guide I can use to read up on the process? I’ve never done this before myself

What you could do is see how much stuff you can clear out of e.g. the Pacman cache:

du -h /var/cache/pacman/pkg/

It does accumulate, needs to be cleared periodically.

That seems to be returning the size of the cache, is that right? How can I see this size of the contents?

du -h /var/cache/pacman/pkg/
15G	/var/cache/pacman/pkg/

edit:nvm just did a simple ls -al

15G !! You can safely get rid of at least most of that. I believe

pamac clean

will do this (never used it; I do it via sudo rm-rf /var/cache/pacman/pkg/*).

Okay so I cleaned the cache with pacman -Sc (I normally use the yay wrapper so curious if I could’ve just done yay -Sc instead but less important right now)

Was able to do a standard update with yay -Syu afterwards and it failed due to what appears to be an issue with the Google Chrome AUR package if I’m understanding this right?

 -> error fetching google-chrome: fatal: not a git repository (or any parent up to mount point /)
Stopping at filesystem boundary (GIT_DISCOVERY_ACROSS_FILESYSTEM not set). 
	 context: exit status 128

so excluding that package lead to the update completing as normal.

However this hasn’t addressed the Anki issue at all and I really would like to get that working. Should I start a thread specifically for that?

From the second link, does " Workspace support is missing (ext-workspace protocol was just merged)." imply that currently having multiple workspaces with the display settings transferring between them doesn’t work but will once an update is provided?
