Fcitx-Mozc Doesn't Appear on Desktop After 2022-11-02 Update?

I’m using KDE and after applying the latest update, the fcitx-mozc (Japanese method input) has stopped appearing, leaving me unable to typoe Japanese.

I have the fcitx, fcitx-mozc, fcitx-configtool and fcitx-qt5 packages installed:

The typical command for switching methods is ctl + shift + space, but this has no effect.

The packages from a prior but report are installed as well, and have been since system startup: aspell hspell libvoikko nuspell.

The control panel registers that fcitx can be configured:

Not sure where else to go from here :slight_smile: How can I restore the Japanese method input by fcitx-mozc?

try to migrate to fcitx5 as mentioned here: https://groups.google.com/g/fcitx-announce/c/eVDQT3tKBRE

Just applied the updates, I’ll give it a restart and report back :slight_smile:

It appears to work on everything except Kate and Strawberry windows for some reason. As well as the KDE configuration windows.

Just migrated over from fcitx-mozc to 5, and noticed that the mozc Japanese IME will only appear in certain windows, and not others.

In browsers, libreoffice, and a few other windows CTL + SHIFT + SPACE will allow Japanese to be written there, but in windows such as Kate, Strawberry, and various KDE system dialogs, using trying to use the Japanese input just results in english being typed. The IME icon:

Does not switch to the expected Mozc icon either:

How can I resolve this?

Please don’t create a new thread about the same topic. I’ve merged them and unmarked the solution.

Put this into your /etc/environment

# FCITX
INPUT_METHOD=fcitx
GTK_IM_MODULE=fcitx
QT_IM_MODULE=fcitx
XMODIFIERS=@im=fcitx
GLFW_IM_MODULE=fcitx
SDL_IM_MODULE=fcitx
IMSETTINGS_MODULE=fcitx

and restart

They’re different topics. One was mozc not appearing anywhere on the desktop due to fcitx being incompatible with the current build. It has an obvious solution: switch to fcitx5 (question answered).

This is an altogether different question about why fcitx5-mozc won’t appear in certain windows. It has a different solution which I have not yet read.
Although I can see the confusion.

Did you set your environmental variables in “.pam_environment”? It seems that it has been discarded. You can try to migrate them to “/etc/environment”.

You’re right! That solved my problem!
