Fans turning on on light tasks on Manjaro i3

Hello everyone!

I reinstalled Manjaro i3 a few days ago and it seems that the fans turn on much more frequently now. For example, watching a video on YouTube didn’t use to require the fans to be on, but now they turn on a few seconds into the video.

My computer is a thinkpad E480 with an Intel Core i5-8250U and 8 Gb of RAM.

From searching a bit online I think I should share these:

fancontol output:

Loading configuration from /etc/fancontrol ...
Error: Can't read configuration file

pwmconfig output:

Found the following devices:
   hwmon0 is AC
   hwmon1 is acpitz
   hwmon2 is BAT0
   hwmon3 is nvme
   hwmon4 is pch_skylake
   hwmon5 is thinkpad
   hwmon6 is iwlwifi_1
   hwmon7 is coretemp
   hwmon8 is ucsi_source_psy_USBC000:001

Found the following PWM controls:
   hwmon5/pwm1 current value: 255
hwmon5/pwm1 is currently setup for automatic speed control.
In general, automatic mode is preferred over manual mode, as
it is more efficient and it reacts faster. Are you sure that
you want to setup this output for manual control? (n) y
hwmon5/pwm1_enable stuck to 2
Manual control mode not supported, skipping hwmon5/pwm1.
There are no usable PWM outputs.

I’m not sure what else I should share to help you help me, so please point me in that direction.

There’s a possibility that it was always like this, but I really think I used to watch YouTube videos in silence, not with the sound of fans in the background.

Thanks in advance!

Youtube sometimes take a heavy load. Try to adjust your fans from bios. Run the test for whats best for your computer.

I’m pretty sure that, while it was default before, recent images no longer include TLP.

Just a guess … but that may be the difference.
