Extremely slow startup times

Recently, my startup times have increased from 20-30 seconds to more than a minute and a half, and I would like to know if there is something I could do to tame this. Checking around this forum led me to https://forum.manjaro.org/t/slow-startup-time/62147 which seemed similar to my problem, but on running systemd-ananlyze-blame, the root causes appeared different, as what appears to take the longest on my system is “systemd.journald.service”, not “systemd-sysctl-service” I’m rather new to Linux, and wasn’t sure where to go from here. I’d appreciate any help I could get.

Output of systemd-analyze:

Startup finished in 24.315s (firmware) + 5.502s (loader) + 4.243s (kernel) + 1min 3.289s (userspace) = 1min 37.351s
graphical.target reached after 1min 3.277s in userspace.

Mod edit: Please use proper formatting: How to format

Somethings looks weird with your mounting. Anything changed, recently?

Have you checked your UUID’s (or other details) in /etc/fstab?

I’ve checked /etc/fstab at your suggestion, but I really don’t know what I’m looking at. I have two UUIDs listed in that file, one mounted at “/” and one mounted at “/boot/efi”

Compare the UUID’s in the /etc/fstab with the UUID of the related partitions.

Commands:

cat /etc/fstab
sudo blkid

The UUIDs reported in /etc/fstab match the UUIDs shown in sudo blkid. I’m not dual booting Windows on this computer, and it’s never been installed on here.

Could you show us the output of both commands?

Yes, sorry. Here’s the output of cat /etc/fstab:

# <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
UUID=D520-6441                            /boot/efi      vfat    umask=0077 0 2
UUID=e17b0b2b-5da7-48e5-bb9e-55f60989105c /              ext4    defaults,noatime 0 1
tmpfs /tmp tmpfs defaults,noatime,mode=1777 0 0

and here’s the output of sudo blkid:

/dev/nvme0n1p1: UUID="D520-6441" BLOCK_SIZE="512" TYPE="vfat" PARTUUID="d2ca1d6b-786b-43d9-8c34-0439d24

/dev/nvme0n1p2: UUID="e17b0b2b-5da7-48e5-bb9e-55f60989105c" BLOCK_SIZE="4096" TYPE="ext4" PARTLABEL="ro

Is this an old install? This line is not needed. Rest looks OK. I don’t see a swap partition, do you use a swap file? It is recommendable even if you have lots of RAM.

No? The computer was built about two months ago, and Manjaro was installed then.

The swapon command displays nothing, so I don’t think I’ve got a swap file set up.

Please, post output of

inxi -Farz

to better understand the hardware you are using.

The tmpfs line is not the issue we are looking here for.

Then we have have to dig deeper into the error log files:

sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st

Is tlp installed? It could conflict with power-profiles-daemon. If yes, uninstall tlp.

Response on that was:

tlp is not installed.

There are many entries to your wifi like

Any clue? Is your router properly working? Did you change any router settings recently?

When you boot, have you devices connected other than monitor, keyboard and mouse?

Nothing connected via USB other than keyboard and mouse, and there have been no recent changes to wifi router settings. I’m not sure if the router is working properly, but the router configuration page does not have any errors, for what that’s worth. There are currently 2 attached network devices, one being the computer currently running Manjaro.

I would try to boot with all networks stopped/disabled.

For me this looks like a lost wifi signal. Could be a broken wifi card. Or the card needs to be reseatet, properly. Or it is a result of an interference on the same wifi band. Have you tried a full power cycle of the router already? Have you tried to switch off Bluetooth?

Yes, I have tried a full power cycle of the router, and I have turned bluetooth off as well.

I have turned off network interfaced and rebooted, turned on airplane mode and rebooted, as well as run sudo systemctl stop NetworkManager.service and rebooted. That last one, when rebooted, came up as connected to the Wifi, so not sure what happened there. No improvement for any of these.

Example of systemd-analyze for most recent boot:

Startup finished in 23.879s (firmware) + 5.504s (loader) + 4.486s (kernel) + 1min 2.556s (userspace) = 1min 36.426s
graphical.target reached after 1min 2.545s in userspace.

Can you show us

cat /etc/default/grub

Also, have you updated your system, fully? Otherwise:

sudo pacman -Syu
