External monitor shuts off when I close laptop lid

After the major update to Wayland from X11 the External monitor shuts off when I close the laptop monitor / the lid of the notebook.

It happens even in the energy option it is not marked that standby mode should not be activated when closing the laptop monitor if external monitor is connected. I tried it out with Thunderbolt 4 connection. I am using KDE Plasma Desktop.

Maybe I have to edit or even delete some specific config-files …?

See here:

In the “Display Configuration” is the external monitor your primary screen or is it the laptop’s built-in monitor?

There is no setting like this under Wayland: Only “Copy from” is set to “No”.

Yes there is “Primary” directly under “Enabled” in Plasma’s display configuration. Anyway, i played with it a bit (normally i don’t use the external monitor for my laptop) but i can’t reproduce what you describe. Per default the “even when external monitor is connected” is off and the only way i get the external monitor to shut off is if i enable this setting. Any setting in the display configuration doesn’t seem to matter. The monitor is connected via HDMI - my laptop has no Thunderbolt.

Perhaps you could try to disable the built-in laptop monitor completely. I’d be surprised if the external monitor would still shut off when you close the lid since in case the laptop monitor is disabled what difference could it make whether the lid is open or closed?

With update to Kernel 6.18 the problem is fixed.
